Resize, compress, convert and edit photos privately

Photos rarely arrive in the shape you need. A job portal wants a picture under 50 KB, a website wants WebP, a print shop wants a square crop, and your iPhone saves HEIC files that a Windows laptop will not open. These free image tools fix all of that in a few clicks. You can compress images, resize photos to exact pixels or a target size in KB, crop to any ratio and convert between JPG, PNG and WebP.

Beyond the basics there are tools for jobs that usually need a separate app: reading the text in a screenshot with image to text (OCR), making a QR code for a shop counter or a Wi-Fi network, turning a selfie into a passport photo at the official size, and hiding a face or number plate with pixelate image before you post a picture online.

All processing happens on your device, using the browser’s own image engine and open-source libraries. Your photos are not uploaded, queued or stored, which makes the tools a sensible choice for ID scans, family pictures and product shots that have not launched yet. They work on phones as well as desktops, and many of them handle a whole batch of files at once. Online sellers, students filling in exam forms, bloggers and anyone sending photos to family will find a tool here that saves a trip to a desktop editor.

Compress, resize or convert: which one shrinks your file?

All of these can make an image smaller, but in different ways. Picking the right one keeps quality where it matters.

  • Compress when the dimensions are fine but the file is too heavy. Compression re-encodes the picture more efficiently, so a 4 MB photo can often drop well under 1 MB with no visible change.
  • Resize when the picture is bigger than it will ever be shown. A 4,000-pixel-wide phone photo displayed at 1,200 pixels wastes most of its bytes. The resizer can also aim for a target size such as 100 KB.
  • Convert when the format is the problem. JPG suits photos, PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency for logos and screenshots, and WebP is usually smaller than both for websites.
  • Crop when only part of the picture matters. Trimming the edges shrinks the file and improves the composition at the same time.

Practical tips for better results

  • Resize first, then compress. Reducing the pixel dimensions before compression gives a smaller file at the same visual quality.
  • Keep screenshots and logos as PNG. JPG compression adds smudgy artefacts around text and hard edges.
  • Check hidden data before sharing. The EXIF viewer shows whether a photo still holds the GPS location where it was taken, and can remove it.
  • Convert iPhone photos with HEIC to JPG before uploading them to forms or older Windows programs.
  • Need several photos in one document? Combine them with JPG to PDF in our PDF tools.

Image Tools: frequently asked questions

How do I reduce a photo to under 100 KB?

Open the image resizer, choose a modest width and set a target size in KB. If the result is still too big, lower the width a little further rather than forcing very low quality.

Will compressing an image reduce its quality?

Slightly, but usually not visibly. JPG and WebP discard detail the eye barely notices, so at sensible settings a photo looks the same while the file is a fraction of the size.

Which is better for a website: PNG, JPG or WebP?

Use WebP or JPG for photographs and PNG for graphics that need transparency or crisp edges. WebP is supported by all current major browsers and is usually the smallest of the three.

Can I edit ID cards and personal photos safely here?

Yes. Images are processed in your browser and are never uploaded or stored, so ID cards, family photos and private screenshots stay on your device.

How do I stop people reusing my photos?

Add a visible text or logo mark with watermark image, placed across the subject rather than in a corner where it is easy to crop off. Nothing fully prevents copying, but a watermark makes ownership clear.

Why won’t my iPhone photos open on my PC?

iPhones save photos as HEIC to save storage, and many Windows programs, websites and forms do not support it. Convert them to JPG first and they will open everywhere.
