A Twitter (X) image resizer for posts, headers and profiles
X — still called Twitter by most people — crops images in the timeline when they don’t match its shapes, and its 1500 × 500 header is a very wide strip that cuts most photos awkwardly. This Twitter image resizer prepares post images at 1600 × 900, 1080 × 1080 or 1080 × 1350, headers at 1500 × 500, profile photos at 400 × 400 and link-card images at 1200 × 628, the sizes recommended as of 2025.
Choose a size, drag the picture to frame it, and download. Header guides shade the strips that some screens trim, the profile size shows the circle your photo is cut to, and post sizes stay under the 5 MB photo limit. The resizing runs in your browser, so your images are not uploaded.
How to use the Twitter (X) Image Resizer
- Drop an image onto the upload area — or several, for a multi-image post.
- Choose a size: 16:9 post, square or portrait post, header, profile photo or link card.
- Drag the preview to position the crop and zoom in if needed. Pick “Fit inside” to keep the whole image on a background colour.
- For the header, keep text out of the shaded bands and away from the bottom-left corner, where your profile photo sits.
- Download the image and attach it to your post or upload it in “Edit profile”.

Designing a header that isn’t cut off
The header is three times as wide as it is tall. On some screens up to about 60 px is trimmed from the top and bottom, and your round profile photo covers part of the lower-left corner on both web and app. That leaves a comfortable safe zone in the middle and right of the image.
Put a short line of text or a logo on the right half, centred vertically, and let the left side carry only background. Turn on the guides to see the bands that may disappear. If you are making matching banners, the LinkedIn image resizer does the same job for LinkedIn’s 4:1 banner.
Posting images that look sharp
- For a single image, 16:9 is the classic shape; square and 4:5 portrait take more of the screen on phones.
- When you post two to four images, X arranges them in a grid and crops each tile in the timeline. Keep the subject of every image near its centre.
- Upload JPG for photos and PNG for screenshots with small text; X converts many uploads to its own JPG, so very large PNGs gain nothing.
- For link previews, set the 1200 × 628 image as
twitter:imageorog:image— the Open Graph generator writes the tags for you.
Twitter (X) Image Resizer FAQ
What is the Twitter header size?
1500 × 500 pixels (3:1). Keep text away from the bottom-left, where your profile photo sits, and out of the top and bottom 60 px, which some screens trim.
What size should images for X (Twitter) posts be?
1600 × 900 (16:9) for landscape images, or 1080 × 1080 and 1080 × 1350 for square and portrait images, which X shows without cropping. Photos can be up to 5 MB.
How do I stop Twitter from cropping my picture?
Resize it to one of the shapes X shows in full — 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5 — before posting. Use “Fit inside” in this Twitter image resizer if you need the whole picture with bars around it.
What is the X profile picture size?
400 × 400 pixels. It is displayed as a circle, so keep your face or logo centred.
Is X image resizer the same as a Twitter image resizer?
Yes. Twitter was renamed X in 2023, but the image sizes carried over, so this tool covers both names.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and your images stay on your device.
