Feeding, growth, pregnancy and safety, worked out from veterinary sources

Ask your vet — these pages are general information, not veterinary advice. Within that limit, these free pet calculators turn published veterinary guidance into everyday answers. The dog food calculator and cat food calculator use resting energy and life-stage factors from the AAHA 2021 guidelines, then convert calories into grams or cups from your own food label. The puppy weight calculator predicts adult weight from growth curves derived from a published study of nearly a million dogs, and the dog weight chart lists healthy ranges for 78 breeds.

If your pet has eaten something it shouldn't, call your vet or an animal poison helpline first. The chocolate toxicity calculator, xylitol toxicity calculator and toxic foods checker explain the published danger levels and show the helpline numbers at the top of the page.

Breeding and care tools include the dog pregnancy and whelping calculator, the cat pregnancy calculator, the dog heat cycle calculator, the coefficient of inbreeding calculator with a pedigree tree, the dog water intake calculator and the dog crate size calculator.

Where the numbers come from

  • Veterinary references. Pages cite the Merck Veterinary Manual, AAHA guidelines, university extension services, the AKC breed standards and peer-reviewed studies, with the date each was checked.
  • Typical, not exact. Breeds, ages and health vary. Use the results as a starting point and adjust with your vet, especially for puppies, kittens, pregnant animals and pets with medical conditions.

Pets & Animals: frequently asked questions

Are these pet calculators free?

Yes. They are free, need no account and run in your browser, so your pet’s details stay on your device.

How much should I feed my dog?

Daily calories start from the resting energy requirement, 70 × body weight in kg to the power 0.75, multiplied by a factor for age, neutering and activity. The dog food calculator then divides by the calories on your food label to give grams or cups per day and per meal.

My dog ate chocolate. What should I do?

Contact your vet or an animal poison helpline straight away, even if your dog seems fine. Signs can take 6 to 12 hours to appear. The chocolate toxicity calculator shows how serious the dose may be, but it does not replace urgent veterinary advice.

How long is a dog’s pregnancy?

About 63 days from mating, usually between 58 and 72 days depending on when ovulation happened. Counting from the LH surge or ovulation, measured by your vet, gives a narrower window.

Is this veterinary advice?

No. The tools explain published guidance and do the arithmetic. Your vet knows your pet and should make decisions about diet, breeding and treatment.
