Convert WebP to JPG for apps that still don’t accept WebP
Saved a picture from a website and ended up with a .webp file that your photo editor, printer or upload form refuses? This WebP to JPG converter turns WebP images into ordinary JPG files that open everywhere. Drop in one or many files, set the quality, choose a background colour for any transparent areas and download the JPGs — all inside your browser, with nothing uploaded.
Many sites serve WebP because it loads faster, so when you right-click and save, that is what you get. Support has improved, but plenty of older software, office suites, photo kiosks, marketplaces and government portals still expect JPG. Converting once gives you a file that works with all of them.
How to use the WebP to JPG Converter
- Drag your WebP files onto the upload area, click it to pick them, or paste an image with Ctrl+V.
- Keep Quality high — 90 or above — because the picture is being compressed for a second time.
- If any WebP has a transparent background, choose the colour to fill it with under Background for transparent areas.
- Choose Remove or Keep for the EXIF data some WebP files carry.
- Download each JPG, or use Download all to save them in a ZIP.
WebP to JPG Converter features
Handles transparent WebPs
Logos, stickers and product cut-outs saved as WebP often have transparent backgrounds. They are placed on your chosen colour rather than turning black.
Animated WebP aware
An animated WebP is converted to a still JPG of its first frame, and the file list tells you so.
High-quality default
Quality starts at 92 so that a second round of lossy compression doesn’t show.
Keeps or strips EXIF
If a WebP carries EXIF data you can copy it into the JPG’s APP1 segment or leave it out.
Format detection
Files are recognised by their content, not their name, so a mislabelled image is still converted and flagged.
Why so many downloaded images are WebP
Google launched WebP in 2010 to make web photos smaller, and later extended it to cover the jobs of PNG and GIF too. Since Firefox (2019) and Safari (2020) added support, content delivery networks and site builders routinely send WebP to any browser whose request says it can display it. The picture on a page may have been uploaded as a JPG, but the copy your browser received — and saved — was converted on the fly.
Support outside the browser arrived more slowly. Adobe Photoshop only opened WebP without a plug-in from version 23.2 in 2022, and many older editors, document tools, print-shop systems and upload forms still don’t. JPG remains the universal choice.
Getting the best JPG from a WebP
- Use quality 90–95. A lossy WebP has already discarded detail; a second lossy pass at a low setting compounds the damage. A high setting keeps the JPG faithful to what you saw.
- Expect the file to grow. WebP compresses more efficiently than JPG, so a JPG that looks the same is usually larger. That’s normal.
- Watch transparent edges. Soft shadows are blended into the background colour, so pick the colour of the page or document the image will sit on.
- Lossless WebPs, common for graphics, contain every original pixel. WebP to PNG keeps those perfect, while JPG suits photos.
- Need a document? Turn the images straight into a PDF with WebP to PDF.

WebP to JPG Converter FAQ
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Drop the WebP files on the converter, keep the quality at 90 or higher, choose a background colour for transparency, and download the JPGs one at a time or as a ZIP.
Why do images I save from websites download as WebP?
Many websites and CDNs send WebP to browsers that support it because the files are smaller. The original upload may have been a JPG, but the copy delivered to you — and saved — is WebP.
Will converting WebP to JPG reduce quality?
Only slightly at high settings. The picture is compressed again, so use quality 90 or above. If the WebP is lossless or has transparency you want to keep, convert it to PNG instead.
What happens to animated WebP files?
JPG can’t hold animation, so the first frame becomes a still JPG. The file list notes when an image was animated.
Why is my JPG bigger than the WebP?
WebP compresses more efficiently than JPG, so a JPG that looks just as good usually needs more bytes. Lower the quality, or use the image compressor, if size matters more than fidelity.
Can I convert WebP to JPG on my phone?
Yes. The page works in mobile browsers on Android and iPhone — choose the WebP files from your gallery or Files app and download the JPGs.
