Convert TIFF and TIF files to JPG, page by page

TIFF is the format scanners, fax software, document archives and professional photo tools love — and the one email, websites and phones handle worst. Files are often huge, browsers other than Safari won’t display them, and many viewers show only the first page of a multi-page TIFF. This TIFF to JPG converter opens TIFF and TIF files in your browser and saves each page as a compact JPG.

It reads the TIFF variants you are likely to meet: uncompressed, LZW, PackBits, Deflate (ZIP) and JPEG-compressed files, black-and-white fax pages in CCITT Group 3 or Group 4, and grayscale, palette, RGB and CMYK images with 8 or 16 bits per channel. Multi-page files become one JPG per page, numbered in order. Nothing is uploaded — the TIFF decoder runs on your device.

How to convert TIFF to JPG

    1. Drop one or more .tif or .tiff files on the upload area, or click to choose them.
    2. Under Pages, keep Every page to convert all pages of multi-page files, or choose First page only.
    3. Set the JPG quality and, for TIFFs with transparency, a Background colour.
    4. Look through the page previews and untick pages you don’t need.
    5. Download a single JPG, or press Download all as ZIP to get every page.

    TIFF to JPG Converter features

    Every page of multi-page TIFFs

Scanned contracts, faxes and archives with dozens of pages are split into one JPG per page, named file-page-1.jpg, file-page-2.jpg and so on.

    All common compressions

Uncompressed, LZW, PackBits, Deflate/ZIP, JPEG-in-TIFF and CCITT Group 3/4 fax compression are decoded.

    Grayscale, palette, RGB and CMYK

Bilevel, 2-, 4-, 8- and 16-bit grayscale, palette colour, 8- and 16-bit RGB and 8-bit CMYK images are converted to standard RGB.

    Right way up

If the TIFF records that it was stored sideways or mirrored, the JPG is rotated to the correct orientation.

    Skips hidden previews

Reduced-size preview images that some programs tuck into TIFFs are recognised and left out, so you only get real pages.

    Private

Medical, legal and financial scans never leave your device.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

That depends on how the TIFF was stored. Uncompressed and PackBits TIFFs of photos shrink the most: a 24-bit uncompressed 12-megapixel image is about 36 MB, while a 90% JPG of it is typically 3–6 MB. LZW- and ZIP-compressed TIFFs start smaller, and black-and-white fax pages compressed with Group 4 are already tiny — converting those to JPG can even make them bigger, because JPG is designed for photos rather than crisp black text.

For black-and-white documents and anything you will edit further, the TIFF to PNG converter is the better choice.

What changes when a TIFF becomes a JPG

    • Compression: JPG is lossy. At 85–95% quality photos look identical, but text and line art can show faint halos, so use a high quality for scanned documents.
    • Bit depth: 16-bit TIFFs are reduced to 8 bits per channel, which is all a JPG can hold.
    • CMYK: print-ready CMYK TIFFs are converted to RGB with a simple formula rather than their embedded colour profile, so colours are close but not colour-managed.
    • Transparency and layers: transparent areas are filled with your background colour. Photoshop layers aren’t read; the flattened composite image Photoshop saves alongside them is converted.
    • Resolution and metadata: pixel dimensions stay the same; DPI tags and EXIF data aren’t copied.

    Files this converter can’t read

A few TIFF variants are rare enough that the browser decoder doesn’t support them: BigTIFF (the 64-bit variant used for files over 4 GB), 32-bit floating-point images used for HDR and scientific data, uncompressed YCbCr, and files that store each colour channel in a separate plane. Each gives a clear message instead of a broken picture. Re-saving the file as an ordinary 8-bit RGB TIFF in GIMP, Photoshop or your scanner software fixes it. Need the reverse — pages saved as TIFF? TIFF to JPG Converter FAQ

How do I convert a multi-page TIFF to JPG?

Drop the file here with “Every page” selected. Each page becomes a separate JPG, and “Download all as ZIP” saves them together in page order.

What is the difference between TIF and TIFF?

None — .tif and .tiff are the same format. The three-letter version dates from old DOS and Windows file-name limits. Both extensions work here.

Will converting TIFF to JPG reduce quality?

Slightly, because JPG uses lossy compression. At 90% or higher the difference isn’t visible in photos. For scanned text, logos or anything you’ll edit again, convert to PNG instead.

Can I convert a fax TIFF to JPG?

Yes. Group 3 and Group 4 fax pages are decoded and saved as JPG. Because they are pure black and white, PNG usually gives a smaller and sharper file.

Why do the colours of my CMYK TIFF look slightly different?

CMYK TIFFs made for printing are converted to screen RGB without their colour profile, so colours can shift a little. Export an RGB version from your design software if colours must match exactly.

Is it safe to convert confidential scans here?

Yes. The TIFF is read and converted inside your browser and never uploaded, so documents stay on your computer or phone.
