Position size, options, valuation and gold, with the formula on every page
Calculations only, not investment advice: markets carry risk, and options and futures can lose more than you expect. Within that limit, these free calculators show the working behind every number. For risk, the position size calculator works out how many shares, lots or units to buy for the amount you are willing to lose, and the risk-reward calculator checks a trade before you take it. For levels, there is the pivot point calculator with classic, Fibonacci, Camarilla, Woodie, DeMark and CPR levels, and the Fibonacci retracement calculator.
For derivatives, the options profit calculator draws the payoff of 16 strategies, the Black-Scholes calculator gives the price, Greeks and implied volatility, the option chain analyzer works out PCR and max pain from a chain you paste, and the futures calculator shows profit after charges. Currency traders have the forex pip and lot size calculator.
For long-term investing, there is the DCF intrinsic value calculator, the PE ratio and Graham number calculator, the dividend and DRIP calculator, the bond yield calculator, the Sharpe ratio and drawdown calculator, the IPO calculator and the stock split, bonus and rights issue calculator. For gold, the gold jewellery price calculator adds making charges and GST, the Sovereign Gold Bond calculator uses RBI's prices, the gold purity calculator converts karats, and the melt value calculator values scrap and coins.
How these calculators are built
- No live prices. Every price, rate and lot size is something you type in. Example values are labelled as examples, so nothing on the page goes stale.
- Rules and charges are dated. Where a page uses an official figure, such as an RBI redemption price, an exchange charge or a tax rate, it names the source and the date checked, and the field stays editable.
- Formulas you can check. Black-Scholes, bond yield and DCF results are tested against published worked examples, and each page shows its working.
Related tools elsewhere on the site
- Returns and tax. The stock profit calculator, CAGR calculator, XIRR calculator, SIP calculator and capital gains tax calculator are in the finance sector, with the crypto profit calculator and gold loan calculator.
Investing & Trading: frequently asked questions
Are these trading calculators free?
Yes. They are free, need no account and run in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere, and the tools do not connect to any broker.
How do I calculate position size?
Decide how much of your capital you will risk on the trade, such as 1%, then divide that amount by the distance from your entry to your stop-loss. The position size calculator does this for shares, futures lots, forex and crypto, and always rounds down.
What is max pain in an option chain?
Max pain is the strike at which option buyers as a whole would lose the most at expiry, based on open interest. It is a theory, not a prediction: prices often finish far from it.
How is GST charged on gold jewellery?
GST is 3% on the full value of the jewellery, including making charges, whether or not they are shown separately, according to the GST Council’s FAQ for the sector. The gold jewellery price calculator applies 3% by default and lets you change it.
Is this investment advice?
No. These are calculators. They do the arithmetic for the numbers you enter and explain the formulas, but they do not recommend any trade or investment.
