Make passport size photos at home
This free passport photo maker turns an ordinary phone photo into a correctly sized passport or visa photo. Choose the country and document, and the crop frame locks to the official size — 35 × 45 mm for India, the UK, Schengen countries, Australia and Japan, 2 × 2 inches for the USA and Indian visas, 50 × 70 mm for Canada and more. Guides show where the top of the head, eyes and chin should sit.
When it looks right, download a single 300 DPI JPG for online applications, or a printable 4 × 6 inch or A4 sheet with several copies and cut lines — a 4 × 6 print costs very little at any photo kiosk or pharmacy. Your photo is processed entirely in the browser and never uploaded.
How to use the Passport Photo Maker
- Pick the country and document. The rules for that size appear below the menu.
- Upload a photo taken straight on, at eye level, about 1–1.5 m from the camera, against a plain white or light wall.
- Drag the photo and use Zoom so the top of the head and the chin sit inside the pink bands and the eyes are near the blue eye line. Use Straighten if your head is tilted.
- Adjust brightness or contrast only slightly if the photo is too dark — official photos must look natural.
- Download the single photo for online forms, or choose a print sheet (4 × 6 in, A4 or Letter) and download it to print at 100% scale.

How to take a passport photo with your phone
- Background: stand about half a metre in front of a plain white, off-white or light grey wall. This tool does not remove or replace backgrounds, so the wall needs to be right in the original photo.
- Light: face a window during the day for soft, even light. Avoid overhead lights that cast shadows under the eyes and flash that causes glare.
- Camera: ask someone else to take it from 1–1.5 m away at eye level, using the rear camera without zoom or portrait mode. Selfies distort the face.
- Pose: face the camera straight on, neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open, hair away from the eyes. Remove glasses — the USA and many other countries no longer accept them.
- Clothing: wear plain everyday clothes that contrast with the background; no uniforms, hats or headphones (religious head coverings are usually allowed if the face is fully visible).
Printing your photos correctly
Print the sheet at 100% / actual size, never “fit to page”, or the photos will be the wrong size. A 4 × 6 in print from a photo lab gives the best quality on proper photo paper; home inkjet prints on glossy photo paper also work for most applications. Cut carefully along the grey lines — on 4 × 6 sheets of 2 × 2 in photos there are no gaps, so cut exactly on the lines.
For online applications that ask for a maximum file size, shrink the downloaded JPG with the Image Compressor or set exact pixel dimensions with the Image Resizer. If the form needs a PDF, use JPG to PDF.
Passport Photo Maker FAQ
What is the size of a passport size photo in India?
Indian passport photos are 35 × 45 mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm) with a white background, and the face should cover about 70–80% of the photo. Indian visa and OCI applications use a square 2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm) photo instead. Choose the matching preset in this passport photo maker.
How many passport photos fit on a 4 × 6 print?
Eight 35 × 45 mm photos fit on a 4 × 6 inch sheet with small gaps, and six 2 × 2 inch photos fit with shared cut lines. On A4 paper you get thirty-two 35 × 45 mm photos.
Can this tool make my background white?
No. It doesn’t use AI to remove backgrounds, because that often creates rough edges around hair that officials reject. Take the photo against a plain white or light wall instead.
Will my photo be accepted?
The tool helps you get the size and head position right, but acceptance also depends on lighting, expression, focus and the background. Check the official rules for your country, and if in doubt, use a professional photo service.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Cropping, adjustments and the print sheet are all created in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.
What does 300 DPI mean for a passport photo?
DPI (dots per inch) tells printers how large to print the image. At 300 DPI a 35 × 45 mm photo is 413 × 531 pixels, which prints at exactly the right size with sharp detail.
