Convert SVG to WebP with transparency

SVG is perfect for icons and logos, but some graphics are better shipped as bitmaps. SVGs with thousands of paths, heavy filters or embedded photos can be large and slow to draw, and many social networks, forums and CMS fields refuse SVG uploads for security reasons. This SVG to WebP converter renders the vector at the size you need and saves a compact WebP that keeps transparent areas transparent.

Pick 1×, 2× or 4× the SVG’s own size, or an exact pixel width, set the quality and convert a batch of files or pasted SVG code in one go. Rendering and encoding happen in your browser, so your artwork is never uploaded.

How to convert SVG to WebP

    1. Drop .svg files on the upload area, or use Paste SVG code instead and Add this SVG.
    2. Set the Output size; use Custom width for an exact width in pixels.
    3. Choose the WebP quality — 100% gives a lossless WebP in Chrome and Edge, ideal for flat graphics.
    4. Keep Keep transparent areas ticked for a see-through background, or untick it and choose a colour.
    5. Download a single WebP or press Download all as ZIP.

    SVG to WebP Converter features

    Transparency kept

WebP has a full alpha channel, so soft edges and shadows over transparent areas survive the conversion.

    Lossless or lossy

Use 100% for pixel-perfect lossless WebP, or lower the quality for photo-like illustrations.

    Retina-ready sizes

2× and 4× outputs, or any width up to 8192 px, with the height following the SVG’s aspect ratio.

    Batch and paste

Convert many SVG files at once, or paste markup straight from your editor.

    Honest fallbacks

If the browser can’t write WebP, you get a PNG and a clear note on the card instead of a mislabelled file.

    No upload

    Everything runs on your device.

When to keep SVG and when to use WebP

A WebP made from an SVG is a snapshot at one size. If the graphic appears at several sizes, export one WebP per size, or use 2× and let the browser scale it down.

    SituationBetter choice
Simple icons, logos and UI graphics on your own siteKeep SVG — tiny and sharp at every size
Complex illustrations with many paths or filtersWebP — faster to download and display
Platforms that reject SVG uploadsWebP, or PNG where WebP isn’t accepted
Social preview images (og:image)PNG or JPG are safest; WebP support varies
Images other people will download and editPNG for compatibility

    Lossless or lossy?

Flat-colour artwork — logos, icons, diagrams, charts — compresses extremely well losslessly, and lossy compression can blur its sharp edges. Set the quality to 100% in Chrome or Edge to get lossless WebP; Google measured lossless WebP files about 26% smaller than equivalent PNGs. Illustrations with gradients, textures or embedded photos are the opposite: a lossy WebP at 80–90% is far smaller and looks the same. Compare the size shown on each card and switch with “Convert again with new settings”.

To inline a small WebP directly into CSS or HTML, encode it with Image to Base64. To squeeze finished files further, use the Image Compressor. For a transparent image that opens absolutely everywhere, SVG to PNG is the safe choice.

    Rendering notes

    • Text uses the fonts available to your browser; outline text in your design tool if the font is unusual.
    • Images and fonts linked from other websites are blocked when an SVG is drawn as an image — embed them in the SVG.
    • Scripts and embedded HTML (foreignObject) are ignored, and animated SVGs are captured in their initial state.
    • Safari can display WebP but can’t create it, so it saves PNG instead. Use Chrome, Edge or Firefox for WebP output.

    SVG to WebP Converter FAQ

How do I convert SVG to WebP?

Drop the SVG file here, or paste its code, choose the output size and quality, and press Download. The WebP is created in your browser.

Does SVG to WebP keep transparency?

Yes. WebP has a full alpha channel, and transparent areas stay transparent while “Keep transparent areas” is ticked.

What size will my WebP be?

At 1× it matches the SVG’s width and height, or its viewBox. 2× and 4× multiply that, and “Custom width” lets you type any width up to 8192 pixels.

Is WebP smaller than PNG for converted SVGs?

Generally, yes. Lossless WebP is typically smaller than PNG for the same picture, and lossy WebP is smaller still for illustrations with gradients or photos.

Why did I get a PNG file?

Your browser can’t encode WebP, which is the case in Safari. Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox to get WebP files.

Can I convert many SVG icons at once?

Yes. Select or drop them all together; each is rendered at the chosen size, and you can download them as one ZIP.
