Create a WhatsApp click-to-chat link in seconds

A WhatsApp link opens a chat with your number the moment someone taps it — no “save the contact first”, no copying digits by hand. This WhatsApp link generator builds the official wa.me click-to-chat address from a country code and phone number, adds an optional pre-filled message, and turns the result into a QR code you can print.

Small businesses put these links on websites, Instagram bios, Google Business Profiles, email signatures and flyers. Freelancers use them for quick enquiries, and anyone can use one to message a number without adding it to their contacts. The tool runs in your browser and never sees or stores your number on a server.

How to use the WhatsApp Link Generator

  1. Choose your Country code — start typing a country name or a code such as +44 and pick it from the list.
  2. Type your Phone number the way you normally write it. Spaces, dashes, brackets and a leading 0 are cleaned up automatically.
  3. Optionally write a Pre-filled message. Emoji and line breaks are encoded correctly so they arrive intact.
  4. Press Copy link, or Open in WhatsApp to test it on your own phone.
  5. Press Show QR code and Download QR (PNG) for posters, menus, packaging or business cards.

WhatsApp Link Generator features

Searchable country picker

Over 230 countries and territories with their dialling codes, preselected from your browser’s language region.

Smart number clean-up

Removes the trunk-prefix 0, spots a country code typed twice, reads +codes you paste in, and warns when a number has an unusual length.

Emoji-safe messages

Text is UTF-8 percent-encoded, so emoji, accents, Hindi or Arabic script and line breaks survive the trip.

Message-only links

Leave the number empty to get a link that lets the reader choose which chat to send your text to — handy for “share this with a friend” buttons.

QR code included

A high-resolution, black-on-white QR code with a proper quiet zone, ready to download as PNG.

How the wa.me link format works

WhatsApp’s click-to-chat format is https://wa.me/<number>?text=<message>. The number must be in full international form with only digits: the country code followed by the national number, without a plus sign, spaces, brackets, dashes or the leading 0 you dial at home. For example, the UK mobile 07700 900123 becomes wa.me/447700900123, and the Indian number 098765 43210 becomes wa.me/919876543210.

The message is URL-encoded: spaces become %20, a line break becomes %0A and an emoji such as 👋 becomes %F0%9F%91%8B. The older api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=…&text=… address does exactly the same thing; choose it only if a platform refuses short links.

Message someone without saving their number

Want to reply to a delivery driver, a landlord or a one-off customer without cluttering your contacts? Enter their number here, press Open in WhatsApp, and the chat opens straight away. Nothing is added to your address book. The person still sees your own number when you write, so this is a convenience, not a way to stay anonymous.

Tips for using WhatsApp links in business

  • Write a helpful opening line such as “Hi, I’d like to book a table for…” — customers can edit it, but most just press send, which tells you where they came from.
  • Use a different message per channel (website, Instagram, flyer) so you can see which one brings enquiries. For web traffic, tag the page link with the UTM Builder.
  • Test before printing. Scan the QR code with two different phones and make sure the right chat opens. Print QR codes at least 2–3 cm wide.
  • Pair it with WhatsApp Business for greeting messages, away messages and quick replies, so a tap at midnight still gets an instant answer.
  • Add a share link or a custom-styled QR code if you need colours or a logo.

WhatsApp Link Generator FAQ

How do I create a WhatsApp link with a message?

Pick your country code, type your number, write the message in the “Pre-filled message” box and copy the link. When someone taps it, WhatsApp opens a chat with you and the message already typed in, ready to send.

Does the person need to save my number?

No. A wa.me link opens the chat directly, whether or not your number is in their contacts. That is also the easiest way for you to message someone without saving their number.

Why does my WhatsApp link say the number isn’t on WhatsApp?

Usually the number has a mistake: a missing or wrong country code, an extra 0 after the code, or a missing digit. Some countries have quirks too — Argentine mobiles generally need a 9 after +54. Fix the number and test the link again.

Can I add emoji and line breaks to the message?

Yes. The generator encodes emoji, accented letters and non-Latin scripts as UTF-8 and turns line breaks into %0A, so the message appears exactly as you wrote it.

Is this WhatsApp link generator free and private?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and the link and QR code are made in your browser. Your phone number is only stored in your own browser to remember the country you last chose.

Does a wa.me link work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. Click-to-chat works the same for WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers, on phones and on WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.
