Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa; Sun and Moon from Meeus’ algorithms; end times found by bisection. Sunrise and sunset are for the upper limb with standard refraction; moonrise and moonset for the Moon’s centre without refraction, after sunrise — the conventions Drik Panchang uses. Times agree with it within about two minutes. The sample shown before the page loads is New Delhi, 19 Oct 2026.

The panchang is a traditional Hindu almanac. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice; for a ceremony, follow your family priest or local temple calendar, which may use different rules. Everything is computed in your browser.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Panchang today for your city: tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana with end times

This free panchang today page gives the five limbs of the Hindu almanac for any date and any city: tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and vara, each with the time it ends, plus sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika Kaal, Abhijit muhurta, the amanta and purnimanta month and the Shaka and Vikram Samvat years.

It opens on today’s date in your own time zone, so families in New York, London, Sydney or Singapore get their local panchang instead of India’s. Choose a city, type coordinates or press Use my location. Every number is computed in your browser from the positions of the Sun and Moon, and an automatic test compares five published Drik Panchang days in India and the USA, minute by minute.

The panchang is a cultural calendar; this page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.

How to use the Panchang Today

  1. Check the City (it starts from your time zone) or enter Latitude and Longitude with the matching Time zone.
  2. The Date starts at today. Press Tomorrow, the arrows or pick any date in the calendar.
  3. Read the tithi, nakshatra and vara at sunrise at the top, then the full list with end times. A time followed by a date belongs to the next calendar day, before the next sunrise.
  4. Use the coloured day strip and the table for Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika and Abhijit; on today’s date each shows whether it is over, now or later.
  5. Press Show the whole month for a month panchang table (download it as CSV), or Copy panchang to share the day.

How each part of the panchang is calculated

All five limbs come from two longitudes. Tithi is the Moon’s elongation from the Sun divided into 30 steps of 12°; the first 15 are the Shukla (waxing) paksha ending at Purnima, the next 15 the Krishna paksha ending at Amavasya. Karana is half a tithi (6°). Nakshatra is the Moon’s sidereal longitude in 27 parts of 13°20′. Yoga is the sum of the sidereal Sun and Moon in 27 parts of 13°20′. Vara is the weekday, counted from sunrise.

The Hindu day runs from sunrise to sunrise, so the element current at sunrise names the day, even if it ends an hour later. Sidereal positions use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the Indian government standard.

Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika and Abhijit

The daytime from sunrise to sunset is cut into eight equal parts. Rahu Kaal is part 8 on Sunday, 2 on Monday, 7 on Tuesday, 5 on Wednesday, 6 on Thursday, 4 on Friday and 3 on Saturday; Yamaganda and Gulika follow their own weekday orders. Because they come from local sunrise and sunset they change with the season and the city — a Rahu Kaal for Delhi is wrong for Chicago. Abhijit muhurta is the eighth of the fifteen daytime muhurtas, around local noon. For a week of Rahu Kaal times see the Rahu Kaal calculator.

Accuracy and differences between almanacs

Checked against Drik Panchang for New Delhi, New York and Los Angeles on five dates (October 2026), end times agree within two minutes. Printed almanacs can differ by more: some use the older Surya Siddhanta rules, a different ayanamsa, or sunrise for a fixed city. Local custom also decides which tithi a festival is kept on. For your Moon’s birth nakshatra use the nakshatra finder; for sunrise times alone, the sunrise and sunset calculator.

Panchang Today FAQ

What is the tithi today?

The page opens on today’s date for your time zone and shows the tithi at sunrise in the first box, with the time it ends and the tithi that follows.

Is this panchang for the USA or India?

Both, and anywhere else. Times are computed for the chosen city in its own time zone. A panchang made for India gives wrong times in the USA, because sunrise and the clock differ.

Why does the tithi end time show the next day’s date?

A tithi often ends after midnight. The Hindu day lasts until the next sunrise, so a time marked with the next date still belongs to this panchang day.

Why is Abhijit muhurta shown as none on Wednesday?

By tradition Abhijit is not used on Wednesdays, and almanacs such as Drik Panchang leave it out that day.

What is the difference between amanta and purnimanta months?

Amanta months end at the new moon (used in south and west India); purnimanta months end at the full moon (used in the north). The Shukla paksha has the same name in both, the Krishna paksha belongs to the next purnimanta month.

Is the panchang a prediction?

No. It is a calendar of Sun and Moon positions. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.
