A kundli is a traditional way of drawing the sky at birth. This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice, and it offers no remedies. The astronomy is computed in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Kundli generator: your janam kundali drawn from real planetary positions

This free kundli generator draws a Vedic birth chart (janam kundali) from the date, time and place of birth: the lagna (ascendant), the Moon’s rashi and nakshatra with its pada, all nine grahas from the Sun to Ketu in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign bhavas, the rashi chart (D1) and navamsa chart (D9) in North Indian or South Indian style, the panchang at the moment of birth and the Vimshottari mahadasha sequence. Labels switch between English and Hindi.

The planetary positions come from the same astronomical engine as the Western birth chart calculator — Meeus’ algorithms for the Sun and Moon, Schlyter’s elements for the planets, ΔT and nutation applied — and then the Lahiri ayanamsa is subtracted exactly as Swiss-Ephemeris-based software does. An automatic test compares the AstroSage charts of Narendra Modi and Swami Vivekananda (within 3 arc-minutes) and the Drik Panchang for New Delhi on two dates (within 2.5 minutes), checked October 2026.

A kundli is a tradition, not a measurement of a person: this page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.

How to use the Kundli Generator

  1. Enter the Date of birth and Time of birth (24-hour clock).
  2. Choose the Birth place from the list (Indian cities first) or type Latitude and Longitude; the Time zone fills in automatically. For old records in local time, set Clock used to local mean time or a fixed offset.
  3. Pick English or हिन्दी, North Indian or South Indian chart style, and mean or true Rahu.
  4. Read the lagna, rashi and nakshatra in the panel, the panchang details below it, then the D1 and D9 charts, the planetary table and the mahadasha list.
  5. Download the rashi chart as SVG or PNG, or copy the whole kundli as text to share.

Kundli Generator features

Sidereal positions with Lahiri ayanamsa

Ayanamsa = 23.857092° at J2000 plus the IAU 2006 precession rate (plus nutation), matching Swiss Ephemeris to about an arc-second.

Lagna, rashi, nakshatra and pada

The ascendant from local sidereal time and latitude; the Moon’s rashi; its nakshatra and pada with the Vimshottari lord; warnings when anything is within 0.2° of a rashi or nakshatra boundary.

North and South Indian charts

The diamond-style North Indian chart with the lagna fixed at the top, or the fixed-sign South Indian grid with the lagna marked, drawn as crisp SVG with Hindi or English labels.

Navamsa (D9)

Each graha’s navamsa from 3°20′ divisions, drawn as a second chart, plus the navamsa lagna.

Panchang at birth

Tithi and paksha, vara (counted from sunrise), yoga, karana, and sunrise and sunset at the birthplace.

Vimshottari mahadasha

The nine mahadasha periods from birth with the balance of the first dasha from the Moon’s position in its nakshatra (365.25-day years).

How the kundli is calculated

The birth time is converted to Universal Time through the browser’s IANA time-zone database, which knows India’s historical offsets and foreign daylight-saving rules, or through local mean time. Tropical longitudes of the Sun, Moon and planets are computed for that instant, the Lahiri ayanamsa is subtracted to give nirayana (sidereal) longitudes, and each longitude is split into rashi (30°), nakshatra (13°20′) and pada (3°20′). Rahu is the Moon’s ascending node (mean by default, as in most Indian software, or true); Ketu is opposite.

Bhavas follow the whole-sign (rashi = bhava) convention: the rashi containing the lagna is the first house and each following rashi is the next house. The navamsa of a longitude is its 3°20′ division counted continuously from 0° Aries, which reproduces the classical rule that movable signs start from themselves, fixed signs from their ninth and dual signs from their fifth.

Reading the North and South Indian charts

In the North Indian chart the houses are fixed and the signs move: the top diamond is always the first house (lagna) and the number inside each house is its rashi (1 = Mesha … 12 = Meena); houses run anticlockwise. In the South Indian chart the signs are fixed — Mesha is the second box of the top row and the signs run clockwise — and the lagna is marked with a diagonal stroke. Planets are shown by two-letter abbreviations (Su, Mo, Ma, Me, Ju, Ve, Sa, Ra, Ke) or their Hindi names, with ℞ for retrograde motion. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are not among the nine grahas and are left out.

Why a kundli can differ between sites

Three things explain almost every difference. The ayanamsa: Lahiri is the Indian government standard, but Raman, KP and others differ by a degree or more and can move a graha into the next rashi. The birth time: the lagna changes sign roughly every two hours, so a few minutes matter near a boundary, which is why this tool warns you. And Rahu: mean and true nodes can differ by up to about 1.7°. To compare two charts use the kundli matching tool, which takes both partners’ Moon positions from this engine; for sunrise-based timings see the sunrise and sunset calculator.

Kundli Generator FAQ

Is this kundli generator free and private?

Yes. No sign-up, no payment; the whole calculation runs in your browser and the birth details are never uploaded.

Can I get my kundli in Hindi?

Yes — choose हिन्दी above the chart. Rashi, graha, nakshatra, tithi and vara names, the table headings and the chart labels all switch to Devanagari.

Which ayanamsa does the kundli generator use?

Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard of the Indian Astronomical Ephemeris and of most Indian software, reproduced to within one arc-second of the Swiss Ephemeris values.

What is the difference between the D1 and D9 charts?

D1 is the rashi chart, the sky divided into twelve 30° signs. D9, the navamsa, divides each sign into nine parts of 3°20′ and is traditionally read alongside D1, especially for marriage questions.

Why is my lagna different from another kundli?

Usually the time zone (IST entered for a birth abroad, or a daylight-saving offset) or a birth near a sign boundary. The note under the inputs shows the offset used; the warning box flags boundary cases.

Does the kundli predict my future?

No. It is a traditional drawing of where the planets were when you were born. Astrology has no demonstrated predictive power; this tool offers no predictions, remedies or advice.
