Brahma muhurta time today in your location, and Abhijit muhurat
This page gives the Brahma muhurta time today for your own city — the start and end of the pre-dawn period worked out from your local sunrise — together with Abhijit muhurat today, the midday muhurta. It opens on today’s date in your time zone, says whether each period is still to come or already on, and lists the next seven days. Tomorrow’s times are one tap away.
Because both periods hang on sunrise and sunset, a time printed for Delhi is wrong in Chennai, London or New Jersey. Here every time is computed for the latitude and longitude you choose, with daylight saving handled by your browser. The day’s other traditional muhurtas — Pratah Sandhya, Vijaya, Sayahna Sandhya and Nishita — are shown as well. These are customs, and this page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.

How Brahma muhurta and Abhijit are calculated
A muhurta is one fifteenth of the daytime or of the night. Brahma muhurta is the 14th muhurta of the night: it begins two night-muhurtas before sunrise and ends one night-muhurta before sunrise. When night and day are both 12 hours, a muhurta is 48 minutes, which gives the familiar rule “1 hour 36 minutes to 48 minutes before sunrise”. In winter the night is longer, so Brahma muhurta starts earlier and lasts longer; in summer it is shorter.
Example: in New Delhi on 19 October 2026 the Sun set at 5:49 pm the evening before and rises at 6:24 am, a night of 12 h 35 min. One night-muhurta is 50 minutes, so Brahma muhurta runs from about 4:44 am to 5:34 am. The day lasts 11 h 24 min, a day-muhurta is 45.6 minutes, and Abhijit (the 8th) runs from 11:43 am to 12:29 pm. Drik Panchang prints 4:43–5:34 am and 11:43 am–12:29 pm for that day: the same to within a minute.
| Muhurta | Rule used here |
|---|---|
| Brahma muhurta | 14th of 15 night muhurtas (or 96–48 min before sunrise) |
| Pratah Sandhya | middle of Brahma muhurta to sunrise |
| Abhijit muhurat | 8th of 15 day muhurtas (or noon ± 24 min); not used on Wednesday |
| Vijaya muhurta | 11th of 15 day muhurtas |
| Sayahna Sandhya | sunset to 1½ night muhurtas after |
| Nishita muhurta | 8th of 15 night muhurtas, around midnight |
Accuracy and other almanacs
Sunrise is the moment the Sun’s upper edge clears a flat horizon, with standard refraction. The automatic test compares five Drik Panchang days in India, the USA and the UK (October 2026), and every period agrees within two minutes. Almanacs that assume a 6:00 am sunrise, or the 48-minute rule, can differ by half an hour or more; switch the convention to compare. For the whole day’s tithi and nakshatra see panchang today; for the inauspicious periods, Rahu Kaal today; for daytime slots by quality, the choghadiya.
