Source: ETS, GRE General Test Interpretive Data, Tables 1A–1C (copyright 2026), based on 788,021 Verbal, 790,864 Quantitative and 785,720 Analytical Writing test takers between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2025 (read 24 October 2026). The percentile is the percentage of test takers who scored lower; “not reported” (n/r) marks cells ETS leaves blank. Means and standard deviations are Verbal 151.39 (8.43), Quantitative 157.62 (9.90) and Writing 3.46 (0.85). ETS publishes no way to convert raw correct answers into a scaled score because the test adapts to you, so this tool covers percentiles only. ETS updates the tables each year, and each program decides what a good score is.

A GRE score percentile finder using ETS’s published tables

This GRE score percentile finder tells you where your Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing scores sit among other test takers. Type the three scores from your report and the tool looks up the percentile ETS publishes for each: the percentage of test takers in the reference group who scored lower. A Verbal 160, for example, beats 82% of test takers; a Quant 160 beats 50%.

The numbers are ETS’s own, from the interpretive-data tables for everyone who tested between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2025, and the page says so. You can also turn the question around — what score do I need to beat 90% of test takers? — and read both full tables, with your rows highlighted. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use the GRE Score Percentile Finder

  1. Enter your Verbal and Quantitative scores (130–170) and your Analytical Writing score (0–6 in half points).
  2. Read the percentile for each measure: the share of test takers who scored lower.
  3. Use “What score do I need for a percentile?” to set a target, such as the 90th percentile in Verbal.
  4. Scroll the tables to see the neighbouring scores; your rows are highlighted.
  5. Copy the result with its source line if you want to share it.

Blank cells explained

Where ETS publishes no percentile, the tool shows “not reported” rather than guessing.

Percentiles only

No made-up raw-score conversion: the GRE is adaptive and ETS does not publish one.

Selected GRE scores and their percentiles

The percentile is the percentage of test takers scoring lower than the score shown (ETS Tables 1B and 1C, 1 July 2022 – 30 June 2025).

Why Quant percentiles are lower than Verbal ones

The same scaled score means different things on each measure because the groups of test takers perform differently. A Quant 160 is only the 50th percentile, while a Verbal 160 is the 82nd. Quant also shows a ceiling effect: 11% of test takers earn a 170, so even a perfect score is the 89th percentile in this table, not the 99th. Many STEM programs therefore ask for a Quant score well above 160.

Percentiles move as the pool of test takers changes, and ETS refreshes the tables yearly. A friend’s older percentile may be a few points different from the one here.

What this tool does not do

The GRE adapts section by section, so ETS does not publish how many correct answers produce a given scaled score, and this page cannot convert raw marks. It also does not give a percentile for Verbal + Quant combined; the sum is shown only as arithmetic. To judge a score, check the program’s own statistics, since admissions committees rarely use a single cutoff. If you are comparing other tests, see the SAT score calculator and the ACT to SAT converter for undergraduate exams, or the TOEFL to IELTS converter for English tests.

GRE Score Percentile Finder FAQ

What percentile is a GRE score of 160?

In ETS’s 2022–2025 tables a Verbal 160 is the 82nd percentile and a Quantitative 160 is the 50th percentile.

What is a good GRE score?

It depends on the program. A score above the program’s typical admitted range helps, and many technical programs weigh Quant more heavily. The percentile shows how rare a score is, not whether you will be admitted.

What is the GRE score range?

Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning run from 130 to 170 in one-point steps; Analytical Writing runs from 0 to 6 in half-point steps.

Can I convert my number of correct answers to a GRE score?

No. The GRE is section-adaptive and ETS does not publish a raw-to-scaled table, so any such converter would be guesswork.

Why is there no percentile for some scores?

ETS leaves cells blank where no test takers fell below or above the range, such as Verbal 130 and Quant 130–132.

Is there a percentile for the total GRE score?

ETS publishes percentiles for each measure only. The sum of Verbal and Quant is shown for convenience but has no official percentile.
