Make a travel route map animation for your reels — free
This travel route map animation maker turns a list of places into a short video of your journey: a plane, car, train, bus or ship travels from stop to stop across a world map, each city label pops up as you arrive and a counter adds up the distance. Download it as a video for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and stories, as a GIF, or as a still image of the finished route.
Everything is made in your browser. You type the stops, choose the shape and style, press play to preview, then download — no sign-up, no watermark and no upload of your travel plans.

Real flight paths
Flights follow the great circle — the shortest route over the globe — so Delhi to New York curves north just as airliners do.
Made for reels
1080 × 1920 vertical video with the title and distance kept clear of the app buttons at the top and bottom.
Up to 8 stops
Mix legs — fly to Dubai, take the train, finish by ship — and the icon changes for each one.
Two camera moves
Show the whole route with a gentle zoom, or follow each leg and pull back to the full trip at the end.
Three map styles
Night, day and vintage paper, all drawn from Natural Earth public-domain map data.
Private
Your stops, the map and the video stay on your device.
Which download should I use?
Some apps refuse WebM uploads. If yours does, record the video in Chrome, Edge or Safari, which save MP4, or convert the file. The recording plays the animation in real time, so keep the tab open and visible until it finishes.
| Format | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Video (MP4 or WebM) | Reels, Shorts, stories, WhatsApp | Sharp 1080 px, 30 frames per second; recent Chrome, Edge and Safari save MP4, Firefox saves WebM |
| GIF | Chats, slides, blog posts | 540 px, 12 frames per second, loops forever; larger files and fewer colours |
| PNG | A cover image or thumbnail | The last frame with the full route, at full size |
How the map and route are drawn
The map uses Natural Earth country shapes, simplified for speed and shown in the familiar Web Mercator projection, so flight arcs bend towards the poles as they do on airline route maps. All land is drawn in one colour with coastlines only — no country borders — which keeps the video simple and avoids disputed boundary lines.
Distances are great-circle (“as the crow flies”) distances on a spherical Earth, the same method as the great circle route map. Roads and railways are longer, so for driving distance and fuel use the multi-stop route planner. The map is a sketch: use it for storytelling, not navigation.
Tips for a better travel video
- Keep it to 6–10 seconds for reels; add a few seconds for routes with more than four stops.
- Use “Follow each leg” when one leg is short and another crosses an ocean, so the short one is not a tiny line.
- Put the dates or trip name in the title, for example “Europe · June 2026”.
- Pair it with a countries visited map or a pin map for the rest of your travel post.
Travel Route Map Animation Maker FAQ
How do I make a travel route map animation for free?
Enter your start, stops and finish, choose plane or another way to travel for each leg, press Play to preview and then Download video. It is free, with no account and no watermark.
Can I make a travel route map video for Instagram Reels?
Yes. Choose Reel / story 9:16 and the video is 1080 × 1920 at 30 frames per second, with the title and counter placed away from the on-screen buttons.
Why is the plane’s path curved?
Planes fly the great circle, the shortest path on a sphere. On a flat map that path looks curved, especially on long east–west flights.
Can I use airport codes?
Yes. Type a 3-letter IATA code such as DEL, BOM, DXB or JFK; more than 1,800 airports are built in. You can also type coordinates.
Why did my video download as WebM?
Firefox records WebM; Chrome, Edge and Safari record MP4. If an app refuses WebM, use one of those browsers or the GIF.
Does it show country borders?
No. The map shows land and coastlines only, so no international boundary is drawn.
