A free pin map maker for trips and places you have been
This pin map maker lets you drop pins on a world map or a map of India, give each one a label and colour, and join them in order to show a trip. It is built for the jobs people search for as a “map with pins for travel” or a “trip map maker”: a souvenir of a holiday, a plan for a multi-city tour, a map of every city you have lived in, or a pinned map for a blog post or school project.
Pins can be added three ways — tap the map, pick a city from the built-in list, or paste coordinates in decimal or degrees-minutes-seconds. The finished map downloads as a PNG or SVG with your title, and your pins can be saved as a CSV file and imported again later. The base map is drawn in your browser, so there is no sign-up, no tile server and nothing to upload.
How to use the Travel Pin Map Maker
- Choose the base map: World or India (states). Use Zoom to or the plus and minus buttons to get closer; drag to move around.
- Tap the map where you want a pin. It is named after the nearest city in the list (within 40 km), or after the country or state you tapped.
- Or type a city under Add a place, or paste coordinates such as
27.1751, 78.0421, and press Add. - Edit each pin in Your pins: change the label, colour and status (Been or Planned), and move pins up or down to set the order of your route.
- Tick Connect pins in order to draw the route and see its length, add a title, then download the PNG or SVG. Save the pins as CSV to edit them later.
Travel Pin Map Maker features
Three ways to add pins
Tap the map, search the city list or paste coordinates in any common format.
Route and distance
Pins are joined by great-circle legs in the order you choose, with the total and average leg length in km or miles.
Been or planned
Planned stops are drawn as hollow pins, places you have been as solid ones, each in its own colour.
Offline base maps
World and India maps from public-domain Natural Earth data, with India shown as depicted by the Government of India.
Import and export
PNG and SVG images for sharing and printing; CSV in and out for spreadsheets; JSON lists of label, lat and lon are accepted too.
How the route length is worked out
Each leg is the great-circle distance between two pins — the shortest path over the Earth’s surface — using the haversine formula on a sphere with the mean Earth radius of 6,371 km. That is the “as the crow flies” distance, which is what you want for flights. Roads and railways are longer: for driving distances between many stops use the Multi-Stop Route Planner, and for a single flight path with bearings and flight time the Great Circle Route Map.
Example: Mumbai → Dubai → London → New York is about 1,930 + 5,470 + 5,570 km, roughly 13,000 km in all. On the world map the legs curve, because a straight line on a globe looks bent on a flat map.
Getting the CSV right
The CSV export has the columns label, lat, lon, colour, status. To import, any spreadsheet with a label (or name) column and latitude and longitude columns will do; colour and status are optional, and a status containing “plan” makes a hollow planned pin. Coordinates are decimal degrees, with south and west negative. Up to 200 pins are kept.
| label | lat | lon | colour | status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaipur | 26.9124 | 75.7873 | #8b6cff | been |
| Udaipur | 24.5854 | 73.7125 | #f0a531 | planned |
Limits worth knowing
- The maps are generalised for small scales. They are right for a trip souvenir, not for finding a street or hiking trail.
- The city search covers about 130 major cities. For anything else, tap the map or paste coordinates from a map app.
- Pins are saved in this browser only. Export the CSV if you want to keep them or move them to another device.
- To colour whole countries or states you have visited instead of placing pins, use the Countries Visited Map Maker.
Travel Pin Map Maker FAQ
How do I make a map with pins for my travels?
Choose the world or India map, then tap each place you have been to, or add cities from the list. Label and colour the pins, tick Connect pins in order if you want the route, and press Download PNG.
Is this pin map maker free?
Yes. There is no account, watermark or limit apart from 200 pins per map, and the map is drawn in your browser.
Can I add a place that is not in the city list?
Yes. Tap its location on the map (zoom in first for accuracy) or paste its coordinates, for example copied from a map app. The pin is named after the country or state if no listed city is nearby, and you can rename it.
Does the route follow roads?
No. Legs are straight great-circle lines, as a plane would fly. Use a road route planner for driving distances.
Can I make a pin map of India?
Yes. Choose India (states) for a map with state and union territory boundaries and India shown as depicted by the Government of India; zoom to a region such as the North-east or the South.
Where are my pins stored?
Only in this browser’s storage. Nothing is uploaded. Download the CSV to keep a copy or to edit the list in a spreadsheet.
