A telling time worksheet generator with answers
This telling time worksheet generator makes printable clock worksheets in a few seconds. Choose the level — whole hours, half past, quarter past and quarter to, every five minutes, or any minute — and the tool draws a fresh set of analogue clocks, with a separate answer key page that shows every clock with its time in digits and in words.
Teachers use it for telling time worksheets for grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3, for home-school practice and for revision. Pick “read the clock”, “draw the hands” or a mix of both, choose digital answers, answers in words, or both, and print on A4 or US Letter. Everything is drawn in your browser: nothing is uploaded and no sign-up is needed.

Telling Time Worksheet Generator features

From o’clock to every minute, so one tool covers grade 1 through grade 3 and revision for older children.

Clocks with hands to read, or blank clocks with a time to draw; the red hour hand is shorter than the blue minute hand.
Answer key
A second page shows every clock with its time in digits and words, ready for marking.
Repeatable sheets
A sheet code gives the same times every time, so you can reprint a worksheet or share the code with a colleague.
Clock face options
All numbers, only 12-3-6-9, Roman numerals or marks only, for gradual progression.
Print-ready
Vector PDF, PNG or direct print on A4, Letter, A5 or Legal.
Which level for which grade
Courses differ between schools and countries, so treat the table as a guide rather than a curriculum. Start at the level where a child gets about eight in ten right and move up when that feels easy.
| Level | Typical use | Example answer |
|---|---|---|
| O’clock | Grade 1, first lessons | 4:00 – four o’clock |
| Half past | Grade 1 to 2 | 8:30 – half past eight |
| Quarter past and to | Grade 2 | 3:45 – quarter to four |
| Nearest 5 minutes | Grade 2 to 3 | 6:25 – twenty-five past six |
| To the minute | Grade 3 and revision | 9:47 – thirteen minutes to ten |
How the times and hands are made
- Times are picked with a seeded random generator; a time is not repeated on one sheet unless the level has too few different times for the number of clocks you asked for.
- The minute hand turns 6 degrees per minute. The hour hand turns 30 degrees per hour and also moves a little with the minutes (0.5 degrees per minute), so at 3:45 it sits three quarters of the way between 3 and 4, as on a real clock.
- Words follow common English usage: “quarter past”, “half past”, “quarter to”, and “twenty to ten”. Other minutes are written as, for example, “thirteen minutes to ten”. Some regions say “half three” or “a quarter after”; this tool uses the forms above.
Teaching tips
Let children say each time aloud before writing it, and compare the analogue clock with the digital display on a phone or classroom clock. For older learners who also need to work out durations, pair this with the timetable maker; for number practice, the multiplication table generator makes matching worksheets.

Choose a level and question type, set how many clocks you want, check the preview and print or download the PDF. The answer key is on page 2.
