Calculated with the Umm al-Qura or tabular calendar. Where months begin after a local moon sighting, the Hijri date — and so the birthday — can be a day later; use the adjustment. Everything runs in your browser.

Hijri age calculator: your age in the Islamic calendar

This Hijri age calculator gives your age in Hijri (Islamic lunar) years, months and days from your date of birth, your Hijri birth date in English and Arabic, and the Gregorian date of your next Hijri birthday — with a table of the birthdays to come. Because a Hijri year is about 354 days, your Hijri birthday moves about 11 days earlier each year, and your Hijri age runs ahead of your ordinary age.

The dates come from the Umm al-Qura calendar of Saudi Arabia, or from the tabular Islamic calendar if you prefer, with an adjustment for places where each month begins after a local moon sighting. The Islamic day begins at sunset, so if you were born in the evening, tick Born after sunset.

Hijri age is used for some religious questions and many people simply like to know it. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

How to use the Hijri Age Calculator

  1. Enter your Date of birth. Tick Born after sunset if you were born after Maghrib.
  2. Leave Age on as today, or pick another date.
  3. Choose the Calendar and, if months begin a day later where you live, the Local moon-sighting adjustment.
  4. Read your Hijri age, your Hijri birth date and the next Hijri birthday, with the days to go.
  5. Look at Your coming Hijri birthdays, and press Copy result to share it.

How Hijri age is worked out

The page converts your date of birth and the “age on” date to the Hijri calendar, then subtracts year from year, month from month and day from day, borrowing the length of the previous Hijri month (29 or 30 days) when the days run short. The next Hijri birthday is the same Hijri day and month in the next Hijri year, converted back to the Gregorian calendar. If you were born on the 30th and that month has only 29 days in a given year, the birthday is kept on the 29th and marked with an asterisk.

Because 33 Hijri years are about 32 solar years, your Hijri age is roughly 3% higher. Someone born on 1 January 2000 — 24 Ramadan 1420 AH — is 27 years, 7 months and 19 days old in Hijri reckoning on 24 October 2026, but 26 years, 9 months and 23 days in ordinary reckoning. Their 28th Hijri birthday, 24 Ramadan 1448, falls on Wednesday 3 March 2027.

Calendars, moon sighting and related tools

Umm al-Qura is computed in advance and used in Saudi Arabia and by most phones and computers. Many communities in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Britain begin each month after the new moon is seen, often a day later, so their Hijri date — and your birthday — may be one day behind; set the adjustment to +1. Dates before 1900 or after 2077 use the tabular calendar, as the page notes.

To convert a single date use the Hijri date converter; for your ordinary age to the day, the age calculator; for East Asian lunar ages, the lunar age calculator; and to count prayers missed since puberty, the qaza namaz calculator.

Hijri Age Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate my Hijri age?

Convert your date of birth and today’s date to Hijri dates and subtract them. The Hijri age calculator does this in years, months and days.

When is my Hijri birthday?

On the same Hijri day and month as your birth each Hijri year — about 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar every year. The table lists the next eight.

Why is my Hijri age higher than my normal age?

A Hijri year is about 354 days, so more Hijri years fit into the same time: about one extra year for every 33.

What if I was born at night?

The Islamic day starts at sunset, so a birth after Maghrib belongs to the next Hijri date. Tick the box.

Is the Islamic age calculator accurate for India or Pakistan?

It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar; where months follow local sighting the date can be a day later. Use the +1 day adjustment.

What is my Hijri date of birth?

It is shown under the result in English and Arabic, for example 24 Ramadan 1420 AH for 1 January 2000.
