Veer Nirvan Samvat converter: the Jain year for any date
This Veer Nirvan Samvat converter gives the Vir Nirvan Samvat (VNS) year — the Jain era counted from the Nirvan of Bhagwan Mahavir — for any date from 1900 to 2098, the day each year begins and ends, and the matching Vikram Samvat. Press Today for Veer Nirvan Samvat today: on 25 October 2026 it is 2552, and Veer Nirvan Samvat 2553 begins on Tuesday 10 November 2026.
The year changes the day after Diwali, the day of Mahavir’s Nirvan, so it does not turn over on 1 January. This page works out that day from the lunar calendar, the same way the Jain calendar does, and runs entirely in your browser.

Veer Nirvan Samvat kya hai? How the Jain era is counted
Vir Nirvan Samvat counts the years since Bhagwan Mahavir attained Nirvan at Pawapuri on the night of Kartika Amavasya — the night of Diwali. Each new year begins the next day, Kartika Shukla Pratipada, which Jains also mark for Gautam Swami’s Keval Jnan. Tradition places the Nirvan 470 years before the Vikram era, so VNS = Vikram Samvat (counted from Kartika) + 470, and from the new year to 31 December VNS = Gregorian year + 527; before it, + 526.
The new year is the day on which Kartika Shukla Pratipada is current at sunrise; if that tithi begins and ends between two sunrises it is kept on the day it begins. When the calendar adds an extra (adhika) month, it is skipped. Dates are for New Delhi; elsewhere in India the day is almost always the same.
| VNS year | Begins | Vikram Samvat |

| 2552 | Wed 22 Oct 2025 | 2082 |
| 2553 | Tue 10 Nov 2026 | 2083 |
| 2554 | Sat 30 Oct 2027 | 2084 |
Vir Nirvan Samvat, Vikram Samvat and Shaka
In North India the Vikram Samvat year usually begins in Chaitra (March or April), so between Chaitra and Diwali the North Indian Vikram year is one more than the Kartikadi year shown here. The Shaka year used by the national calendar is Gregorian − 78 from late March. For tithis, parva days and festivals use the Jain calendar; for Paryushan and Samvatsari, Paryushan dates; and for other eras, the Hindu calendar converter.
