When does train ticket booking open for my journey date?
This train ticket booking date calculator works out two dates for Indian Railways: the day general reservation opens for your journey, and the day and time Tatkal opens. Enter the date the train leaves its starting station, choose AC or non-AC, and it returns both dates with the weekday, plus how many days away they are from the date you check against.
People often ask for “the 60-day booking date” or “the Tatkal time for AC and sleeper”. The page answers both without naming any booking website, and every rule value can be edited in case a notice changes it. Rules were checked on 24 October 2026.

The rules this calculator uses (as of 24 October 2026)
Advance reservation period. A Ministry of Railways release published by the Press Information Bureau on 17 October 2024 reduced the advance reservation period from 120 days to 60 days, excluding the date of journey, with effect from 1 November 2024. Bookings made up to 31 October 2024 under the old period stayed valid, a few day-time trains such as Taj Express and Gomti Express keep their shorter limits, and zone pages note that the period is counted from the train’s originating station. The 365-day period for foreign tourists was not changed by that release.
Tatkal. The railway corporation’s Tatkal FAQ page says Tatkal e-tickets for selected trains open one day in advance, excluding the date of journey: from 10:00 for AC classes and 11:00 for non-AC classes (SL, FC, 2S). For a 2 August departure that means 1 August. The same page says confirmed Tatkal tickets are not refunded on cancellation.
General booking time. The 08:00 start is the long-standing opening time for advance bookings. The 2024 release does not restate it and the page is editable, so check the time in the booking app.
Things the dates do not tell you
Not every train has Tatkal quota, and Premium Tatkal is priced dynamically, so use the Tatkal charges calculator for the standard extra charge only. Since mid-2025, news reports from the Ministry of Railways describe Aadhaar-based authentication for online Tatkal booking, OTP checks for counter and agent Tatkal bookings, and a first-30-minute restriction for authorised agents on the opening day. Those reports were from secondary coverage, and no 2026 change was confirmed, so read the current instructions in the railway’s app before booking.

Is the booking time 8 am?
General reservations have long opened at 08:00 on the first day. The 2024 notice did not restate it, so confirm in the app.
Do all trains have a 60-day window?
No. A few day-time trains have shorter limits, and foreign tourists have a longer one. Edit the days in the rule values if yours differs.
Can this book my ticket?
