Rates notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in consultation with IRDAI: G.S.R. 394(E) of 25 May 2022 (in force 1 June 2022), as amended by G.S.R. 32(E) of 5 January 2024 for auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws. No later revision had been notified when this page was checked on 19 October 2026; a rise was proposed in 2025–26, so check the latest notification or your insurer’s quote. The personal accident cover for the owner-driver, own-damage cover and add-ons are extra. This is information, not insurance advice.

Third party insurance premium chart for every vehicle class

This third party insurance premium chart lists the premiums notified by the Government of India for compulsory motor third-party (TP) cover, and works out the amount for your vehicle. Choose the class, enter the engine size in cc, the motor power in kW or the gross vehicle weight, and it shows the base premium, GST and total — plus the full chart with your row highlighted.

The third party insurance premium for car and the third party insurance premium for two wheeler are the same at every insurer, because the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) fixes them by notification in consultation with IRDAI. What differs between quotes is the own-damage part, add-ons and discounts such as NCB.

How to use the third-party premium chart

  1. Pick the vehicle class — private car, two-wheeler, electric, long-term new-vehicle cover, taxi, auto-rickshaw, bus or goods carrier.
  2. Enter the engine capacity (cc), motor power (kW) or gross vehicle weight (kg) from the registration certificate.
  3. For taxis, auto-rickshaws and buses, enter the licensed passengers excluding the driver.
  4. Leave GST on Standard (18%, or 5% for goods carriers) or change it, and tick vintage or hybrid if they apply.
  5. Read the total, then scan the chart below for any other class.

Which year is this chart from?

The rates come from the Motor Vehicles (Third Party Insurance Base Premium and Liability) Rules, 2022 — notification G.S.R. 394(E) of 25 May 2022, in force from 1 June 2022. A January 2024 amendment (G.S.R. 32(E)) changed only the three-wheeler passenger and e-rickshaw rows. When this page was checked on 19 October 2026 no newer notification had been published, although an increase was proposed during 2025–26. If one is notified, the new figures replace these from its effective date.

A worked example: a 1,197 cc hatchback falls in the 1,001–1,500 cc band, so the TP premium is ₹3,416, GST at 18% adds ₹615 and the total is ₹4,031 for a year. Compare running costs with the fuel cost calculator or loan costs with the car loan calculator.

What third-party cover includes

  • Unlimited liability for death or injury of other people, and cover for damage to third-party property, as the Motor Vehicles Act requires.
  • It does not cover damage to your own vehicle — that needs own-damage cover, where your no claim bonus applies.
  • Compulsory personal accident cover for the owner-driver is priced separately by insurers.
  • Driving without valid third-party insurance is an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Third-Party Insurance Premium Chart FAQ

What is the third party insurance premium for a car in 2026?

₹2,094 a year up to 1,000 cc, ₹3,416 for 1,001–1,500 cc and ₹7,897 above 1,500 cc, plus 18% GST — the rates notified in 2022, still in force when checked in October 2026.

What is the third party insurance premium for a two wheeler?

₹538 up to 75 cc, ₹714 for 76–150 cc, ₹1,366 for 151–350 cc and ₹2,804 above 350 cc per year, plus GST. Electric scooters and bikes pay ₹457 to ₹2,383 depending on motor power.

Why is the premium the same at every insurer?

Because the government notifies the base third-party premium for each class. Insurers compete on own-damage cover, add-ons and service.

Do electric vehicles pay less for third-party insurance?

Yes. Electric classes use kW bands and are roughly 15% cheaper than the equivalent petrol class, and hybrids get 7.5% off.

Is GST charged on third-party insurance?

Yes — 18% for most vehicles. Third-party cover for goods carriages attracts 5% from 22 September 2025, following the 56th GST Council meeting.

Does NCB reduce the third-party premium?

No. The no claim bonus applies only to the own-damage premium.
