GST calculator for India, updated for GST 2.0

This GST calculator adds GST to a price or takes it out of a GST-inclusive price, and shows the split between CGST and SGST for sales within a state or IGST for sales between states. One tap selects the current 5%, 18% and 40% rates, and 0.25%, 3%, 12% and 28% remain for jewellery, older invoices and returns.

Switch to Invoice with items to total a bill with products at different rates, with a rate-wise summary like the one on a GST tax invoice. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

How to use the GST Calculator

  1. Choose “Add GST” if your price excludes GST, or “Remove GST” if the price already includes it (as an MRP does).
  2. Select “Within a state” for CGST + SGST, or “Between states” for IGST.
  3. Type the amount and tap a GST rate — 5%, 18% or 40% for most goods and services today — or “Custom” for any other rate.
  4. Read the taxable value, the GST and the total, with the CGST/SGST or IGST split below.
  5. For several products, choose “Invoice with items”, fill in quantity, unit price and rate for each line, and press “Add item” for more. “Copy breakdown” copies the figures.

GST 2.0: the new rate structure from 22 September 2025

GST began on 1 July 2017 with main slabs of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% plus a compensation cess. At its 56th meeting on 3 September 2025, the GST Council approved a simpler structure, often called GST 2.0, effective 22 September 2025.

Most goods and services now fall into two slabs: a 5% merit rate and an 18% standard rate. Most items that were taxed at 12% moved down to 5%, and most items at 28% moved to 18%. A 40% special rate applies to a short list of luxury and “sin” goods. Nil-rated and exempt supplies remain at 0%, and the special rates of 3% for gold, silver and jewellery and 0.25% for certain precious stones continue. Tobacco products and pan masala stayed at the old rate plus compensation cess for a transition period.

Rates are set item by item, so confirm the rate for your product or service from its HSN or SAC code in the official CBIC rate notifications. Results are estimates for planning and checking invoices, not tax advice. A discount given on the invoice reduces the taxable value — work it out first with the discount calculator. Composition-scheme businesses pay 1–6% of turnover instead: see the GST composition scheme calculator.

How to calculate GST: formulas and examples

Adding GST to a price (exclusive): GST = taxable value × rate ÷ 100 and total = taxable value + GST. A ₹10,000 service at 18% attracts ₹1,800 GST, so the invoice total is ₹11,800. Within a state that is ₹900 CGST + ₹900 SGST; between states it is ₹1,800 IGST.

Removing GST from a price (inclusive): taxable value = price × 100 ÷ (100 + rate) and GST = price − taxable value. An item with an MRP of ₹1,050 at 5% has a taxable value of 1,050 × 100 ÷ 105 = ₹1,000 and ₹50 of GST. A quick shortcut: the GST hidden inside an inclusive price is rate ÷ (100 + rate) of it — about 15.25% of the price at 18%, and 4.76% at 5%.

Don’t simply subtract 18% from an inclusive price: 18% of ₹11,800 is ₹2,124, but the GST included is only ₹1,800.

CGST, SGST, UTGST and IGST explained

  • Intra-state supply (seller and place of supply in the same state): GST is split equally into CGST, which goes to the Centre, and SGST, which goes to the state. At 18% that is 9% + 9%.
  • Union territories without a legislature, such as Chandigarh or Ladakh, use UTGST in place of SGST — the amounts are the same.
  • Inter-state supply and imports: the whole tax is IGST, collected by the Centre and shared with the destination state.
  • HSN and SAC codes: goods are classified by HSN codes and services by SAC codes, which decide the rate. Businesses with aggregate turnover up to ₹5 crore must show at least 4-digit HSN codes on B2B invoices, and those above ₹5 crore must show 6 digits.

GST Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate GST on a price?

Multiply the price before tax by the GST rate and divide by 100. For ₹2,500 at 18%, GST is 2,500 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹450 and the total is ₹2,950. In the GST calculator, choose “Add GST”, enter 2,500 and tap 18%.

How do I remove GST from an inclusive amount?

Divide the inclusive amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For ₹2,950 including 18% GST: 2,950 ÷ 1.18 = ₹2,500 taxable value, and the GST is ₹450. Choose “Remove GST” to do this automatically.

What are the new GST rates from 22 September 2025?

Most goods and services are now taxed at 5% or 18%, with a 40% special rate for luxury and sin goods and 0% for nil-rated and exempt items. Special rates such as 3% on gold and silver continue.

Are 12% and 28% GST still used?

Most items in the old 12% and 28% slabs moved to 5% or 18% on 22 September 2025. You may still need those rates for invoices, credit notes and returns for earlier periods, and some tobacco products continued at 28% plus cess during the transition, so the calculator keeps them.

When do I charge CGST + SGST and when IGST?

Charge CGST + SGST (or UTGST) when the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state or union territory, and IGST when they are in different states. The total tax is the same.

Can I use this for GST in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore?

Yes — choose “Custom”, enter 10%, 15% or 9% and pick your currency, and ignore the CGST/SGST split, which is specific to India. The VAT calculator also has presets for those countries.
