Rules used: Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme, 2019 — deposits for 15 years from opening, maturity 21 years from opening, interest compounded yearly; rate editable (default 8.2%, as of 2026). Informational estimate, not financial or tax advice.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Sukanya Samriddhi calculator: what your daughter’s SSY account can grow to

This Sukanya Samriddhi calculator shows what a Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) account is worth when it matures 21 years after you open it. Pick your daughter’s age at opening, the amount you plan to deposit each financial year and the interest rate, and it works out the maturity value, the interest earned and a year-by-year balance — with a chart and a CSV you can keep.

SSY is the government small-savings scheme for a girl child below 10. You deposit for the first 15 years only; the money then keeps earning interest for another six years until maturity. The calculator follows those rules exactly, and can also model the partial withdrawal of up to 50% of the balance allowed once she turns 18 for higher education.

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is stored. The interest rate is set by the government every quarter, so the default of 8.2% (as of 2026) is editable — check India Post’s current rate before relying on the figure. Results are informational estimates, not financial or tax advice.

How to use the Sukanya Samriddhi Calculator

  1. Choose the girl’s age when the account is (or was) opened — the scheme allows opening until she turns 10.
  2. Enter the deposit every year, between ₹250 and ₹1,50,000.
  3. Check the interest rate against the rate notified for the current quarter.
  4. Pick when you deposit: by 5 April earns interest for the whole year, in March earns almost none that year.
  5. Optionally tick the partial withdrawal at 18 and set the share (up to 50%).
  6. Read the maturity value, then scroll the year-by-year table or download it as CSV.

How SSY interest is calculated

Interest is calculated on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of each month and credited once a year, at the end of the financial year, so it compounds annually. That is why a deposit made by 5 April earns interest for all twelve months, while one made in March earns about one month. The calculator treats the yearly deposit as a single payment at one of those two points.

For each year: balance = (last balance + deposit) × (1 + rate) when you deposit by 5 April. From year 16 the deposit is zero and the balance simply grows at the rate until year 21.

Worked example: ₹1,50,000 a year from age 5 at 8.2%. Year 1 ends at ₹1,62,300. After 15 deposits you have put in ₹22,50,000; at maturity, when she is 26, the account holds about ₹71,82,119, of which ₹49,32,119 is interest. Depositing in March each year instead gives about ₹66,37,818.

SSY compared with other options

SSY usually pays more than the PPF and five-year post office deposits, and its returns are tax-free. In exchange the money is locked in for 21 years and can only be used for her education or marriage. If you want flexibility, compare a recurring deposit or the other schemes in the post office savings calculator. Under the new tax regime there is no 80C deduction, but the interest remains tax-free.

  • Deposit early in the financial year — the timing alone is worth lakhs over 15 years.
  • Keep at least ₹250 going in every year so the account stays regular.
  • Opening when she is younger stretches the six interest-only years further into her adult life, but maturity is always 21 years after opening.
