Exchange rates are fetched from a public exchange-rate API (open.er-api.com) and cached on your device. Nothing you type is sent anywhere — conversions happen in your browser.

A fast currency converter with daily exchange rates

The currency converter converts money between more than 160 currencies using daily mid-market exchange rates. Type an amount, pick the currencies — search by code, name or country — and the result appears instantly, along with the rate in both directions and a table of what the same amount is worth in other major currencies.

One tap handles the most-searched pairs such as USD to INR, EUR to USD, GBP to INR and AED to INR. Rates are saved on your device, so the converter still works on a flight or with a weak signal, and it clearly tells you when it is showing saved rates.

How to use the Currency Converter

  1. Type the amount you want to convert.
  2. Tap the “From” currency and search by code, currency name or country — for example “dirham”, “japan” or “GBP”.
  3. Choose the “To” currency the same way, or tap a popular pair such as USD → INR.
  4. Read the converted amount and the exchange rate in both directions. Use the swap button to reverse the pair.
  5. Check the table for the same amount in other currencies, or press “Show all currencies” for every one.

Mid-market rate vs the rate your bank gives you

The rates here are mid-market rates — the midpoint between the prices at which banks buy and sell a currency on the wholesale market. They are the fairest reference point, but they are not usually the rate you get as a customer.

Banks, card networks, airport counters and money-transfer services add a markup to the mid-market rate, and some also charge a fixed fee. Card foreign-transaction or forex markup fees are commonly in the range of 1–3.5%, and cash exchange counters can be far more expensive. In India, GST is also charged on currency conversion services.

How to check what you were charged: divide the amount you actually received by the amount you sent to get your effective rate, then compare it with the mid-market rate. For example, if the mid-market rate is 1 USD = 85.00 INR and $1,000 turned into ₹83,300, your effective rate was 83.30 — 2% below mid-market, or ₹1,700 lost to the markup. The percentage calculator can work out that difference for you.

How the conversion is calculated

All rates are published against the US dollar. To convert between any two currencies, the converter uses the cross rate: amount in B = amount in A × (rate of B ÷ rate of A). If 1 USD = 0.80 EUR and 1 USD = 80 INR, then 1 EUR = 80 ÷ 0.80 = 100 INR, and €100 is ₹10,000.

The provider updates rates once a day, and the converter shows the time of the last update. Exchange rates move constantly during market hours, so these figures are for information and planning — not for trading, and not financial advice. For prices that include tax, separate the tax first with the VAT calculator or GST calculator.

Tips for sending or spending money abroad

  • Compare the total cost, not just the fee: a “zero fee” transfer with a poor rate can cost more than a small fee with a near mid-market rate.
  • Pay in the local currency when a card machine abroad offers to charge you in your home currency — that dynamic currency conversion usually comes with a worse rate.
  • Comparing salaries across countries? Convert with this tool, then break the figure down by month or hour with the salary calculator.

Currency Converter FAQ

How often are the exchange rates updated?

The rates come from ExchangeRate-API’s open data and are updated once a day. The converter shows when they were last updated and refreshes automatically when a newer set is due; you can also press “Refresh rates”.

Why is my bank’s rate different from this currency converter?

This converter shows the mid-market rate. Banks and card providers add a margin, and sometimes a fee, on top of it, so the rate you are offered is usually a little worse.

How do I convert USD to INR?

Type the amount, then tap the “USD → INR” quick button, or choose US Dollar as “From” and Indian Rupee as “To”. The result shows the amount in rupees and the rate both ways.

Does the currency converter work offline?

Yes, once it has loaded rates at least once on your device. If the rate service can’t be reached, it uses the saved rates and shows a notice with the date they were published.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The page only downloads the public rate list; your amounts and currency choices stay in your browser, and the last pair you used is remembered only on this device.

Can I use these rates for trading or accounting?

They are fine for quick estimates, budgeting and travel planning. For trading, tax filings or official accounts, use the rate your bank, broker or tax authority specifies.
