Sade Sati calculator by date of birth or Moon sign
This free sade sati calculator shows when Saturn passes through the three signs around your Moon sign — the 12th, the 1st and the 2nd from the rashi — the seven-and-a-half-year span the tradition calls Shani Sade Sati. It also lists the two shorter “dhaiya” periods, Kantaka Shani (Saturn 4th from the Moon) and Ashtama Shani (8th), and tells you where Saturn stands on any date you choose.
The dates are computed, not copied from a table. Saturn often turns retrograde near a sign boundary and re-enters the previous sign for a few months, so a single “start” and “end” hides the detail; the table shows every crossing, including those retrograde breaks. You can start from a date of birth, from a birth date without a time, or simply from your Moon sign. All of it is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.
How to use the Sade Sati Calculator
- Choose Date of birth and enter the date, time and place, or tick Birth time unknown. If you already know your rashi, choose Moon sign (rashi) instead.
- Check the Time zone: Saturn’s sign changes are shown as dates in that zone.
- Set Status on to today (the default) or any date to see where Saturn is and which period, if any, is running.
- Read the time line and the table: each Sade Sati with its three phases, any retrograde breaks, and the dhaiya periods. Untick Show dhaiya to list Sade Sati only.
- Copy dates as text or Download CSV for a spreadsheet or calendar.
Sade Sati Calculator features
Computed Saturn ingresses
Saturn’s sidereal longitude from orbital elements with the Jupiter–Saturn perturbations, Lahiri ayanamsa, scanned every two days and bisected to the second.
Retrograde re-entries
When Saturn slips back into the previous sign, the break is shown inside the period instead of being dropped.
Three phases and dhaiya
12th (rising), 1st (peak) and 2nd (setting) from the Moon, plus Kantaka Shani and Ashtama Shani.
Status on any date
Saturn’s sign on the chosen date, the period it falls in, and the current or next Sade Sati.
Without birth time
The Moon sign rarely depends on the hour; the tool warns when the Moon changed sign that day.
How Sade Sati is worked out
First the Moon’s sidereal sign at birth is found (or you choose it). Saturn takes about 29.5 years to go round the zodiac, roughly two and a half years per sign, so it spends about seven and a half years in the three signs centred on your Moon sign. The tool lists every interval Saturn spends in a sign over a hundred years from birth (or 1940–2100 by rashi), counts each sign from the Moon, and joins the 12th, 1st and 2nd into one Sade Sati. A retrograde step back of less than about a year is kept inside the period and labelled as a break.
Worked example: for a Sagittarius Moon, Saturn entered Scorpio (12th) on 2 November 2014, Sagittarius on 26 January 2017, slipped back into Scorpio in June 2017, returned in October, moved into Capricorn on 24 January 2020, and finally left for Aquarius on 17 January 2023 — so that Sade Sati ran about eight years and two months.
Saturn’s sign changes 2020–2032 (Lahiri)
Computed by this tool and checked against published Lahiri dates (hindupad.com, vedicmarga.com and jagannathhora.com, checked 19 October 2026). Sources disagree on some dates by a day or more, mostly because of different ayanamsas; near a retrograde station Saturn moves so slowly that an arc-minute shifts the date by about a day.
| Saturn enters | Date (IST) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Capricorn | 24 Jan 2020 | |
| Aquarius | 29 Apr 2022 | back to Capricorn 12 Jul 2022 |
| Aquarius | 17 Jan 2023 | |
| Pisces | 29 Mar 2025 | |
| Aries | 3 Jun 2027 | back to Pisces 20 Oct 2027 |
| Aries | 23 Feb 2028 | |
| Taurus | 8 Aug 2029 | back to Aries 5 Oct 2029 |
| Taurus | 17 Apr 2030 | |
| Gemini | 31 May 2032 |
Reading the result calmly
Everyone has a Sade Sati about every thirty years, usually two or three in a lifetime, and dhaiya periods in between, so at any moment roughly a quarter of all people are in Sade Sati and more again in a dhaiya. The tradition describes them as times associated with Saturn’s themes of effort and patience. This calculator only reports the dates. The kundli generator shows Saturn in the full chart, and the nakshatra finder gives the Moon’s nakshatra.
Sade Sati Calculator FAQ
How do I use the sade sati calculator by date of birth?
Enter your date, time and place of birth. The tool finds your Moon sign and lists each Sade Sati with start and end dates, the three phases and any retrograde breaks.
Can I check Sade Sati without a birth time?
Usually yes. The Moon stays in one sign for about two and a half days, so the date alone normally fixes it. The tool warns when the Moon changed sign on your birth date; then choose the sign by rashi.
Which rashis are in Sade Sati now?
As of October 2026, with Saturn in Pisces (since 29 March 2025), Aquarius, Pisces and Aries Moon signs are in Sade Sati. Set Status on to any date to check another time.
Why do other sites give different start dates?
Different ayanamsas, time zones, and whether a retrograde re-entry is counted as the start. Here every crossing is listed.
Does Sade Sati predict anything?
No. It is a traditional way of naming a stretch of Saturn’s transit. This page gives no predictions, remedies or advice.
