Make a pivot table online in seconds

A pivot table answers questions like “sales by month and city”, “how many tickets per agent” or “average order value per product” from a flat list of records. This pivot table maker does that in your browser: paste rows from Excel, Google Sheets or a CSV export, or drop an .xlsx, .ods or .csv file, choose which field goes in the rows, which goes across the columns and which to add up, and the summary table updates as you change the options — no spreadsheet software, macros or sign-up.

It is handy on a phone, when Excel’s PivotTable dialog is more than the job needs, or for a quick cross-tab of an export. Dates are recognised automatically, so order dates can be grouped by day, month, quarter or year without helper columns, and a filter keeps only one product, region or status.

Everything is computed by JavaScript on your device (SheetJS, Apache-2.0, reads the workbook formats). Nothing is uploaded.

How to create a pivot table

  1. Paste your data into the box — the first line must be the header — or drop a spreadsheet on Drop an Excel, ODS or CSV file and pick the sheet. The sample sales data shows the layout.
  2. Choose the Rows field (for example City), an optional Columns field (for example Date, grouped by month) and the Values field to summarise (for example Sales).
  3. Pick how to Summarise by: Sum, Count, Average, Min, Max, Distinct count or % of grand total. Counts work on text fields too.
  4. For a date field, set Group … dates by to Day, Month, Quarter or Year. If text dates are ambiguous (04/03/2026), choose the order under Dates in text.
  5. Add a Filter, sort rows by name or by total, set the decimals and switch totals on or off.
  6. Press Download CSV, Download Excel (.xlsx) or Copy for Excel / Sheets (tab-separated, pastes straight into a sheet).

Pivot Table Maker features

Seven ways to summarise

Sum, Count, Average, Min, Max, Distinct count and % of grand total. Totals are computed from the underlying values, so the total of an Average column is the true mean, not the average of averages.

Automatic date grouping

Date cells from a workbook and text dates such as 2026-03-04, 4 Mar 2026 or 04/03/2026 are grouped by day, month, quarter or year and sorted in calendar order.

Numbers in any format

Values like 1,250.50, ₹12,34,567, $ 3,000, (450) or 12% are read as numbers; cells that are not numbers are left out of sums and counted in a note under the table.

Filter, sort and totals

Keep only one value of any field, sort rows by label or by their total, choose decimals, and show or hide totals. Row totals carry a small bar so the biggest group stands out.

Files or pasted text

Paste from Excel or Sheets (tabs are detected), or drop XLSX, XLSM, XLS, ODS or CSV files with several sheets. Data from a file keeps its real dates and numbers.

Clean exports

CSV with a byte-order mark for Excel, a real .xlsx with numeric cells, or tab-separated text for the clipboard — each contains the full pivot even when the preview is cut off at 500 rows.

Rows, columns and values, explained

A pivot table takes one record per line and folds it into a grid: every distinct value of the Rows field becomes a row, every distinct value of the Columns field becomes a column, and each cell holds the chosen summary of the Values field for the records in that row and column. Leave Columns on “none” for a one-column summary — the same as GROUP BY in SQL or SUMIF in a spreadsheet.

QuestionRowsColumnsValues · Summarise by

Tips for clean results

  • The first line must be the header. Repeated header names get a suffix (Amount_2); blank headers take their column letter.
  • Keep one value per cell. A “Tags” column with books, gift is one group, not two — split it into rows first (the CSV Editor can help).
  • Dates in ISO form (2026-03-04) are never ambiguous. For 04/03/2026 the tool reads day/month/year unless another cell in the column proves it is month/day/year; override it under “Dates in text”.
  • Blank values in the Rows or Columns field are grouped as “(blank)” and listed last, so they stay visible. The preview shows the first 500 row groups and 120 column groups; the downloads contain everything.

Compare, view and convert

Before summarising an updated export, Compare Excel Files shows which cells changed between two versions. The CSV Viewer is the place to scroll, sort and filter raw rows, and Excel to JSON turns a sheet into data for code. For the mean, median or standard deviation of one column, use the Statistics Calculator.

Pivot Table Maker FAQ

How do I make a pivot table without Excel?

Paste your rows (with a header line) into the box or drop the file, then pick the Rows, Columns and Values fields and how to summarise them. The pivot table is built instantly in your browser and downloads as CSV or .xlsx.

Can I group dates by month in the pivot table?

Yes. When a field is recognised as dates, a “Group … dates by” option appears with Day, Month, Quarter and Year. Months are labelled like “Jan 2026” and sorted in date order.

Why is my column of numbers not adding up?

Check the note under the table: values that are not numbers (such as “n/a” or “12 pcs”) are skipped and counted there. Also make sure Summarise by is set to Sum rather than Count.

Can I use two row fields, like Region and then City?

Not yet — the tool uses one Rows field and one Columns field. Put the second field in Columns, or add a combined column in your sheet (=A2&" / "&B2) and use it as the Rows field.

How is % of grand total calculated?

Each cell’s sum of the Values field is divided by the sum over all rows that pass the filter, times 100. The totals column shows each row’s share and the grand total reads 100%.
