Combine multiple Excel files into one sheet
Each branch, shop or salesperson sends its own workbook, and you need one sheet to total, filter or pivot. This Excel merger combines many .xlsx, .xls, .ods or CSV files into a single sheet, lining up the columns by their header names. It works even when one file has the columns in another order, an extra column, or a report title and company name above the header, as many accounting and billing exports do.
Every row can be tagged with the file (and sheet) it came from. Amounts stay numbers in their own number format, including Indian lakh and crore grouping such as 12,60,000.00, and dates stay real dates, so the combined sheet is ready for SUM, filters and pivot tables. If you would rather keep each sheet separate, the second mode copies every sheet of every file into one workbook as its own tab.
The workbooks are opened with SheetJS (Apache-2.0) and combined in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to merge Excel files
- Drop all the workbooks on the box at once, or click it to pick them. Three sample branch sales registers are loaded first; your files replace them.
- Choose Combine into: “One sheet” stacks the rows under one header; “One workbook” keeps every sheet as its own tab.
- Choose Sheets to use: the first sheet with data in each file, every sheet, or only sheets with a given name such as “April”.
- Leave Header row on “Find it” to skip title rows automatically, or pick the row number. Tick “Source file” (and “Sheet”) to label each row.
- Check the column map and the preview, then press Download combined sheet or Download CSV.
Excel Merger features
Columns matched by header
Columns in a different order, with different letter case or extra spaces, land in the same place; extra columns are added at the end.
Title rows skipped
The header row is found automatically: the first of the top 15 rows that is all text and fills most of the width.
Numbers and dates kept
Cells are copied with their type and number format, including Indian grouping, so totals still add up in the combined sheet.
One sheet or one workbook
Stack rows into one sheet with an AutoFilter, or copy every sheet into one workbook with tidy, unique tab names.
Source and sheet columns
Label each row with its file and sheet name, ready for a pivot by branch or month.
Mix formats
Combine .xlsx with .xls, .ods and CSV in one go; CSV codes such as 007 stay text.
Which mode to choose
| You want | Combine into | Sheets to use |
|---|---|---|
| All branches’ sales in one list | One sheet | First sheet of each file |
| A year of monthly tabs in one list | One sheet | Every sheet, with the Sheet column |
| Only the “April” tab from each file | One sheet | Sheets with this name |
| All files in one workbook, each sheet untouched | One workbook | Every sheet |
What is kept and what is not
- Kept: values, number and date formats, column widths and merged cells (in “One workbook” mode). Formulas become their calculated values when rows are stacked, because their references would point at the wrong rows; in “One workbook” mode you can keep them.
- Not kept: fonts, colours, borders, charts, pictures, comments and data validation — the free SheetJS edition does not write them.
- One Excel sheet holds at most 1,048,576 rows and a sheet name at most 31 characters (Microsoft’s “Excel specifications and limits” and “Rename a worksheet”, checked 30 October 2026). Longer tab names are shortened and made unique.
- Up to 120 MB of workbooks at a time. For many CSV exports use the CSV Merger; to go the other way, the Excel Splitter makes one file per branch; for totals by branch or month, open the result in the Pivot Table Maker.
Excel Merger FAQ
How do I combine multiple Excel files into one sheet?
Drop all the workbooks here, keep “One sheet (rows stacked)” and press Download combined sheet. Rows from every file are stacked under one header, with columns matched by name and a Source file column.
Can I merge Excel files with different column orders?
Yes. Columns are matched by header name, not by position, so “Date, Invoice No” in one file and “Invoice No, Date” in another end up in the same columns.
How do I merge Excel files into one workbook with separate sheets?
Choose “One workbook, a sheet per sheet”. Each sheet of each file becomes its own tab, named after the file (and the sheet when a file has several).
My exports have a company name above the header. Will that break the merge?
No. With Header row set to “Find it”, title rows are skipped and the real header row is used for each file separately. The column map shows which row was used.
Are my Excel files uploaded?
No. They are read and combined in your browser, and the new workbook is created on your device.
