End-of-service gratuity in the UAE and Saudi Arabia
This end-of-service calculator works out the gratuity a private-sector employee receives on leaving a job in the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia. Choose the country, enter the joining date, the last working day and the last monthly pay, and it shows the amount, the service counted and each step of the formula.
For the UAE it applies Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 — the same engine as the UAE leave salary calculator. For Saudi Arabia it applies Articles 84, 85 and 87 of the Labor Law, including the reduced award on resignation. Indian gratuity is a different law: use the gratuity calculator.

UAE gratuity calculation under the labour law
A foreign employee with at least one year of continuous service receives 21 days’ last basic wage for each of the first five years and 30 days’ for each year after, with part years pro rata. Unpaid absence is not counted, and the total cannot exceed two years’ wage. Since February 2022 the reason for leaving does not reduce it.
Example: 1 June 2019 to 31 October 2026 is 2,710 days, or 7.42 years. On a basic of AED 8,000 (AED 266.67 a day), 105 days + 72.74 days = 177.74 days’ pay = AED 47,397.
End of service calculator for Saudi Arabia
Article 84 gives half a month’s wage for each of the first five years and a full month’s wage for each year after that, on the last wage, with part years in proportion. On resignation Article 85 reduces it:
| Service when you resign | Award |
|---|---|
| Under 2 years | None |
| 2 to 5 years | One third |
| More than 5, under 10 years | Two thirds |
| 10 years or more | Full award |
Saudi example and exceptions
An employee on SAR 10,000 a month from 1 January 2016 to 31 October 2026 (10.84 years) receives 2.5 + 5.84 = 8.34 months’ wage, about SAR 83,411, whether the contract ended or they resigned, because resignation after ten years carries the full award. After seven years a resignation pays two thirds, about SAR 30,036.
Article 87 pays the full award when a worker leaves because of force majeure, or when a woman ends her contract within six months of marriage or three months of giving birth. Dismissal for one of the Article 80 reasons forfeits the award. The labour-law amendments in force from 19 February 2025 added a formal resignation procedure, and firms read their effect on Article 85 differently, so check your case with HRSD or a lawyer.
Not covered: free zones and other GCC countries
DIFC and ADGM have their own employment laws and workplace savings schemes, so a gratuity calculator for a Dubai free zone such as DIFC needs those rules. JAFZA, DMCC and most other free zones follow the federal law. Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain have their own laws and are not modelled here.
