A free cricket scorer for gully, box and club matches

This cricket scorer turns a phone into a scoreboard: tap 0–6 for runs, pick wides, no balls, byes and leg byes with the extra runs, record wickets with the right dismissal, and the tool keeps the strike, the over count, the bowler’s figures, the fall of wickets, the target and the required rate, and the scorecard builds itself.

It is built for the matches most apps ignore: 6-over gully games with six a side, box cricket, office and school tournaments, and proper 20- or 50-over club games. Every ball is saved in your browser, so a closed tab or a dead signal loses nothing.

How to use the Cricket Scorer

  1. In Setup, type the team names, pick a preset (Gully, Box, 10 overs, T20, ODI) or set overs and players yourself, paste the batting orders one name per line and choose who bats first. Press “Start match”.
  2. Confirm the bowler for the over. Tap 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 for runs off the bat; the striker’s runs, balls and strike rotate automatically, including at the end of each over.
  3. For extras tap Wide, No ball, Bye or Leg bye and then the runs the batters ran. A no ball switches on a free hit (if enabled) and the next legal ball is marked.
  4. Tap Wicket, say what the delivery was and how the batter was out; only dismissals allowed off that delivery are offered. The next batter in the order comes in.
  5. When the innings ends (all out, overs done or target reached) press “Start 2nd innings”; the board shows the target, runs needed, balls left and required run rate until the result.
  6. Open Scorecard for both innings, copy the WhatsApp summary, or download the ball-by-ball CSV and JSON.

Cricket Scorer features

Scores like a real scorer

Wides and no balls add their penalty and are re-bowled; byes and leg byes go to extras, not the bowler; the new batter faces after a catch; maidens, economy and strike rates are worked out for you.

Gully rules built in

Six-a-side with six overs, “last batter bats alone”, a maximum overs per bowler, editable wide and no-ball penalties, and free hits that can be switched off.

Undo anything

The match is a log of balls, so Undo removes the last one and recomputes everything — score, strike, over, bowler figures, even the result.

Target, RRR and result

The second innings shows the target, runs needed off balls left and the required run rate; the result reads “won by 23 runs”, “won by 4 wickets (7 balls left)” or “Match tied”.

Full scorecard and exports

Batting with how-out, runs, balls, fours, sixes and strike rate; bowling with O-M-R-W, economy and wides/no balls; fall of wickets; over-by-over; a copy-ready summary; CSV and JSON.

How the scorer applies the Laws

The scoring logic follows the ICC Men’s T20I Playing Conditions clause pages (clauses 17, 18, 21, 22 and 23, published 28–29 September 2017) and the ICC changes effective 1 October 2022, which mirror the MCC Laws of Cricket. The parts that matter for a scorer:

  • Over (17.1, 17.3, 17.6): six legal balls; wides and no balls do not count; a bowler may not bowl consecutive overs — the bowler list hides the previous over’s bowler.
  • No ball (21.15–21.18): one-run penalty (editable), the ball is re-bowled, runs off the bat go to the striker, runs not off the bat are byes or leg byes. Only run out, hit the ball twice and obstructing the field are possible.
  • Free hit (21.19, T20I/ODI condition): the next delivery after any no ball; if it is itself a wide or no ball the free hit carries over; the striker can only be out as off a no ball.
  • Wide (22.6–22.9): one-run penalty plus any runs run, all as wides and charged to the bowler; the ball is re-bowled; only stumped, run out, hit wicket and obstructing the field.
  • Byes and leg byes (23): credited to the batting side, not the batter, and not charged against the bowler, so an over of byes can still be a maiden.
  • Run out (18.8.2): runs completed before the wicket count; say who was out and how many runs were completed in the wicket form.
  • After a catch (ICC, 1 Oct 2022): the new batter takes strike whether or not the batters crossed, unless the catch ended the over.

Gully and box cricket settings

Local games bend the Laws, and the setup lets you follow suit. Last batter bats alone keeps the innings going until every player is out, the common gully rule. Max overs per bowler enforces a quota such as two overs each in an eight-over game. The wide and no-ball penalties accept 0–5 runs for tournaments that award two.

Not modelled: Super Overs, DLS targets and penalty runs. For a rain-shortened chase use the DLS calculator; for tournament tables the net run rate calculator and league table calculator.

Cricket Scorer FAQ

Is this cricket scorer free, and does it work offline?

Yes. It is free, needs no account, and once the page has loaded it scores without a connection; every ball is saved in your browser so you can close the tab and come back.

How do I score a wide that the keeper misses and the batters run two?

Tap Wide, then “wd +2”. The team gets three (the one-run penalty plus two), all recorded as wides against the bowler, the ball is re-bowled, and because two is an even number the same batter keeps the strike. The tool works out the parity for you.

What happens on a no ball hit for six?

Tap No ball, then “nb +6”: seven runs to the team, six to the batter, one no-ball extra against the bowler, the ball is re-bowled and the next legal delivery is a free hit if free hits are on.

Can I change who comes in next?

Yes. After a wicket the next name in the batting order walks in automatically; pick someone else in the “New batter” box before the next ball is bowled.

Why can’t I pick the same bowler again?

Clause 17.6: a bowler may not bowl two overs in a row in the same innings, so the previous over’s bowler is hidden from the list. A per-bowler quota from the setup hides bowlers who have used theirs.

How do I share the scorecard on WhatsApp?

Open the Scorecard tab and press “Copy summary”: it copies both innings’ totals, the top scorers and bowlers, and the result as plain text. The CSV has every delivery for a spreadsheet.
