A pickleball score keeper that tracks the serve for you
Pickleball’s doubles scoring is simple to play and surprisingly easy to lose track of: who is the first server, who is the second, which side should they stand on, and what is the score call? This pickleball score keeper works all of that out. After every rally you tell it only one thing: did the serving side or the receiving side win?
It shows the three-number call (serving score, receiving score, server number), highlights the server and the receiver on a small court diagram, and enforces the win-by-two rule. Singles, doubles, side-out scoring, rally scoring and games to 11, 15 or 21 are all supported, and the match is saved in your browser as you go.
How to use the Pickleball Score Keeper
- Open Match setup: choose doubles or singles, side-out or rally scoring, the points per game (11, 15 or 21), one game or best of three or five, who serves first, and type the player names. The first-named player of each team is its starting server.
- Read the score call aloud, for example “0-0-2”, and serve. The highlighted card shows the server and the side (right or left) to serve from.
- After the rally tap Serving side won the rally or Receiving side won the rally. The score, server number and positions update.
- Use Undo if you tapped wrongly: the whole scoreboard is rebuilt from the rally log.
- At the end copy the result to share, or save the match as a JSON file.
Pickleball Score Keeper features
Server one, server two and side out
In side-out scoring both partners serve before the serve passes, except at the start of a game, when only one does. The tool follows that and calls the score the standard way.
Who stands where
The court diagram shows the server, the diagonal receiver and the partners, based on each team’s score, so a disagreement about positions is quick to settle.
Win by two and game point
A game ends only when a side has reached the target with a two-point lead, and a badge warns when the next rally can finish the game.
Rally scoring option
Switch to rally scoring, where every rally scores and each team has a single server, with the two-number call.
Save, load, share
Auto-saved in the browser, with JSON export and import and a plain-text result for WhatsApp.
The rules this tool applies
The logic follows the 2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook (usapickleball.org, read on 30 October 2026). Your league or tournament director has the final say on local variations.
- Points (Rule 4): in standard scoring a point is scored by serving and winning the rally. Games are typically to 11 and must be won by two; tournaments may use 15 or 21 (Rule 15.C).
- Singles (Rule 5.A): the server serves from the right area when their score is zero or even and from the left area when it is odd; a side out follows when the server loses a rally.
- Doubles (Rule 5.B): both players on a team serve before a side out, except at the start of each game, when only the starting server serves and is treated as the second server (the “0-0-2” call).
- After a side out: the player correctly positioned on the right side according to the team’s score becomes the first server and the partner the second server.
- Positions: the team’s starting server stands on the right when the team score is even and on the left when it is odd; the partner stands on the opposite side.
- Rally scoring (Rule 14.A, provisional): a point for the winner of every rally, one server per team in doubles, the score called as two numbers. Whether it is allowed depends on the event.
Limits
The tool does not judge faults, lets or line calls, and it does not check that players are in the right courts: it tells you where they should be. Later games alternate which side serves first; many events decide this by coin toss, so change the setting if yours differs. Win-by-one team formats and the special rally-scoring rule for game point are not modelled.
Pickleball Score Keeper FAQ
What does “0-0-2” mean in pickleball?
It is the call at the start of a doubles game: serving team’s score, receiving team’s score, and server number 2. The first team to serve gets only one server in the game’s first service turn, so it begins as “second server”.
Who serves after a side out?
The team that gained the serve starts with the player who is correctly positioned on the right side for that team’s score. That player is server one; the partner is server two.
Can only the serving team score?
In standard side-out scoring, yes: a point is scored by serving and winning the rally. In rally scoring either side scores on every rally.
Why does my game not end at 11?
A game must be won by two points, so 11-10 continues until one side leads by two.
Is it free and private?
Yes. The scoreboard runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Which rulebook edition is used?
The 2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook. Earlier editions use the same side-out logic; the numbering of the rules differs.
