League table and goal difference calculator
This league table calculator turns a list of scores into standings. Type one match per line, such as “Lions 2-1 Tigers”, and the table updates as you type: played, won, drawn, lost, goals for, goals against, goal difference and points for every team. It suits football (soccer) leagues, but works for any sport that ranks teams by points and scores.
The box at the top is a quick goal difference calculator: enter goals for and goals against and you get the difference at once. Goal difference is simply goals scored minus goals conceded, so a team that scored 62 and let in 41 has +21. It is the usual first tie-breaker when two teams finish level on points.
Points for a win, draw and loss are editable, and you pick the tie-breaker order yourself, so you can mirror your school, club or office league. Everything runs in your browser and your results are saved only on your device.
How to use the League Table & Goal Difference Calculator
- Type or paste your results, one per line, home team first: Lions 3-0 Sharks. A dash, en dash or colon between the scores all work.
- Or press Import results and choose a CSV or text file with rows in the order home, home goals, away goals, away.
- Set the points for a win, draw and loss. The common setting is 3-1-0; some leagues use 2-1-0 or add bonus rules that are not modelled here.
- Choose up to three tie-breakers. The line under the table repeats the order that was used.
- Press Print table to print only the standings, or download the table or the results as CSV.

How goal difference works
Goal difference (GD) = goals for (GF) − goals against (GA), added up over all of a team’s matches. It rewards teams that win big and punishes heavy defeats, and it separates teams that have the same points. A 5-0 win moves the difference by +5 for the winner and −5 for the loser.
Teams that finish level on points are then split by whichever tie-breakers the competition lists. Many leagues use goal difference first and goals scored second, but some use head-to-head results first. Because the order differs between competitions, this page does not assume one: it lets you choose, and it states the order it used under the table.
Worked example
Lions and Tigers both have four points, so goal difference puts Lions (+1) above Tigers (0). Change the first tie-breaker to away goals scored and the two swap, because Tigers scored one away goal and Lions none.
| Team | P | W-D-L | GF-GA | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eagles | 3 | 2-0-1 | 5-2 | +3 | 6 |
| Lions | 3 | 1-1-1 | 4-3 | +1 | 4 |
| Tigers | 3 | 1-1-1 | 3-3 | 0 | 4 |
| Sharks | 3 | 1-0-2 | 1-5 | −4 | 3 |
Limits
Results are read as home first, which matters only for the away-goals option. Bonus points, points deductions, fair-play points, drawing of lots and play-offs are not modelled. When a head-to-head step leaves a smaller group still level, the remaining tie-breakers are used for that group; some rulebooks restart the head-to-head step instead. Teams level on everything you chose are listed alphabetically and the page tells you so.

League Table & Goal Difference Calculator FAQ
What is goal difference?
Goal difference is the number of goals a team has scored minus the number it has conceded. A team with 30 scored and 22 conceded has a goal difference of +8.
How does goal difference work as a tie-breaker?
When teams have the same points, the one with the higher goal difference ranks higher. If that is level too, the next tie-breaker in the rules applies, often goals scored.
How many points do I get for a win?
Three is common in football, with one for a draw and none for a loss, but you can enter any values. Check your own competition’s rules.
Does head-to-head come before goal difference?
That depends on the competition. This calculator lets you put head-to-head first, second or third, and shows the order it used.
How do I enter a match?
Write the home team, the score, then the away team, for example “Eagles 2-0 Sharks”. You can also paste CSV rows as home, home goals, away goals, away.
Is my data stored online?
No. Your results are kept in this browser only and nothing is uploaded.
