Denominations as of 24 Oct 2026: India — banknotes of ₹10 to ₹500 in circulation and the ₹2,000 note withdrawn from circulation on 19 May 2023 but still legal tender (RBI press releases on the withdrawal of ₹2000 banknotes); coins of ₹1 to ₹20. United States — bills from $1 to $100 (the $2 bill is still issued) and cent to dollar coins. The lists are a convenience, not an official register: use “Other” for any other set.

Your count stays in your browser. Nothing is sent or saved. This is a counting aid, not an accounting record or a bank’s verification of the cash.

Cash denomination calculator: count notes and coins and get the total in words

This cash denomination calculator turns a pile of notes and coins into a total. Type how many of each denomination you have, and it multiplies, adds up and shows the amount in figures and in words, with the number of notes, the number of coins and a breakdown you can copy onto a deposit slip. It suits a shop till at closing time, a petty-cash box, a bank deposit or a quick count of the money from an event.

Presets cover India (₹10 to ₹500 notes, the withdrawn ₹2,000 note, and ₹1 to ₹20 coins) and the United States ($1 to $100 bills and coins from one cent to one dollar). For any other currency pick “Other” and type your own list of denominations. Enter an expected total (opening float plus sales) to see straight away whether the drawer is over or short. The sheet prints cleanly as a cash count sheet with lines for who counted and who checked, and downloads as a CSV for Excel or Google Sheets.

How to use the Cash Denomination Calculator

    1. Choose the currency: India, United States, or Other with your own denominations.
    2. Enter the number of notes and coins in each row. Leave a row empty if you have none.
    3. Optionally enter the expected total to see whether the cash is over or short.
    4. Read the total, the total in words, the notes and coins counts and the breakdown.
    5. Print the count sheet, download the CSV or copy the summary for your records.

    Cash Denomination Calculator features

    Total in words

    Your own denominations

    Type any list, such as 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 0.5, for another currency.

    Print and CSV

A tidy cash count sheet with signature lines, or a CSV that opens in a spreadsheet.

How the count is added up

Each row is denomination × number of pieces, and the total is the sum of the rows. For example 12 notes of ₹500 are ₹6,000, 30 notes of ₹100 are ₹3,000 and 25 coins of ₹1 are ₹25. The calculator works in whole paise or cents so decimal rounding never creeps in, and it accepts only whole-number counts.

To count faster, work from the largest denomination down and keep notes in bundles of 100: a bundle of ₹500 notes is ₹50,000. Count twice, or have a second person check, and put the same total on the slip as in the register. The cash book is the place to record the closing balance, and the number to words converter handles other amounts.

    Example count (India)PiecesAmount
    ₹500 notes12₹6,000
    ₹100 notes30₹3,000
    ₹10 coins10₹100
All rows in the default sheet155₹11,115

    Limits and good practice

    • The presets list the denominations normally handled at a till. Commemorative, old or damaged notes and coins are not covered; use “Other” to add a special value.
    • The tool counts what you type. It cannot detect forged notes or check a bank’s own counting.
    • The ₹2,000 note was withdrawn from circulation in 2023 but stays legal tender. It is listed so a stray note is not forgotten.
    • Nothing is saved or sent: close the tab and the count is gone, so print or download before you leave.

    Cash Denomination Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate cash denominations?

Multiply each denomination by the number of notes or coins and add the results. This calculator does it as you type.

Can I get the total in words?

Yes. The total is written out below the figure, with lakh and crore for rupees and dollars and cents for US currency.

How do I find out if my till is over or short?

Enter the expected total, for example the opening float plus the day’s cash sales. The tool shows whether the count is over, short or matches.

Is there a printable cash count sheet?

Yes. Press Print count sheet; the page prints only the count, with lines for who counted, who checked and the date.

Can I use it for another currency?

Choose Other, type the denominations separated by commas and an optional symbol, and the rows are built for you.

Does it work like a cash denomination calculator in Excel?

It does the same multiplication and totals, and the CSV download opens in Excel or Google Sheets.

Is my cash count stored anywhere?

No. It stays in your browser and disappears when you close the page.
