An Atal Pension Yojana calculator built on the official APY chart
This Atal Pension Yojana calculator tells you what you would pay into APY each month, quarter or half-year for a guaranteed pension of ₹1,000, ₹2,000, ₹3,000, ₹4,000 or ₹5,000 a month from age 60. Enter your age when you join, pick a pension and a payment frequency, and it reads the figure straight from PFRDA’s APY contribution chart — the same table banks use when they enrol you.
It also shows how many years you will pay, the total you put in, the corpus your nominee gets back and the whole chart for every joining age from 18 to 40, with your row highlighted. Nothing is uploaded; it runs in your browser.

How Atal Pension Yojana works
APY is a Government of India pension scheme administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). You choose a pension slab when you join, pay a fixed amount by auto-debit from your savings account until 60, and from 60 you receive that pension every month for life. After your death your spouse gets the same pension for life, and after both of you the nominee receives the accumulated corpus — indicatively ₹1.7 lakh for the ₹1,000 slab up to ₹8.5 lakh for ₹5,000.
The pension is guaranteed: if the invested contributions earn less than the assumed return, the Government makes up the shortfall; if they earn more, the extra can increase benefits. You can move to a higher or lower slab once a year (usually in April), and a missed instalment attracts overdue interest of ₹1 a month per ₹100.
Worked example: join at 25 for a ₹5,000 pension and you pay ₹376 a month for 35 years — 420 payments, ₹1,57,920 in total. Join at 18 and the same pension costs only ₹210 a month.
Who can join APY
- Indian citizens aged 18 to 40 with a savings account at a bank or post office.
- From 1 October 2022, anyone who is or has been liable to pay income tax cannot open a new APY account (Ministry of Finance notification of 10 August 2022). Accounts opened by 30 September 2022 are not affected.
- If a taxpayer opens an account on or after 1 October 2022, it is closed and the pension wealth to date is returned.
- Taxpayers can compare long-term savings in the NPS calculator, the PPF calculator or the retirement calculator.
Atal Pension Yojana Calculator FAQ
How do I use the Atal Pension Yojana calculator by age?
Enter your age at joining (18–40), choose the pension and how often you pay. The calculator reads the exact instalment from the APY chart and shows how many years you pay until 60.
What is the APY contribution for a ₹5,000 pension?
It depends on your age: ₹210 a month if you join at 18, ₹376 at 25, ₹577 at 30, ₹902 at 35 and ₹1,454 at 40.
Is the quarterly amount just three times the monthly one?
Not exactly. The chart lists separate quarterly and half-yearly figures, and this calculator uses them as published.
Can an income-tax payer join Atal Pension Yojana?
Not since 1 October 2022. People who joined before that date can continue.
What happens if I die before 60?
Your spouse can continue paying into your account until you would have turned 60 and then receive the same pension, or take back the accumulated corpus.
Is this calculator official?
No. It uses PFRDA’s published chart, but it is not affiliated with PFRDA or any bank. Check the figures with your bank before enrolling.
