Best next guesses

Scored by how many remaining candidates each letter appears in, with a bonus for the right position and no credit for repeated letters.

    Possible answers

Word list: 6,500 five-letter words derived from WordNet 3.1 (Princeton WordNet licence) — 4,100 base words likely as answers, plus plurals and verb forms accepted as guesses. Everything runs in your browser.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

A Wordle helper that respects every clue — including double letters

Stuck on today’s puzzle? Enter the guesses you have made, colour each tile exactly as the game showed it, and this Wordle helper lists every five-letter word that still fits, counts how many are likely answers, and ranks the best next guesses. It applies the game’s real rules for repeated letters, so a grey second E means “exactly one E”, not “no E”.

Use it as a hint engine when you want a nudge rather than the answer, to check whether a word you are considering is still possible, or to learn which opening words split the dictionary most evenly. A hard-mode switch limits suggestions to words that obey the clues, as the game’s hard mode requires.

The 6,500-word list is embedded in the page and the filtering runs in your browser, so the tool is fast, works offline once loaded, and shares nothing.

How to use the Wordle Helper

    1. Type your first guess in the row (five letters).
    2. Click each tile to set its colour: grey (not in the word, or no more copies), yellow (in the word, wrong spot), green (right spot). Match the game exactly.
    3. Read Possible answers — base words first, plurals and verb forms in italics — and Best next guesses at the left.
    4. Press Add guess for your next attempt, or click a suggestion to drop it into a new row, then colour its tiles after you play it.
    5. Tick Hard mode if you are playing hard mode, so suggestions always reuse the clues you have found.

    Wordle Helper features

    Exact Wordle rules

Green fixes a position, yellow requires the letter elsewhere, and grey is interpreted by letter count — the way the game actually scores repeated letters.

    Best-guess ranking

Candidates and “probe” words are scored by how well their letters split the remaining answers, with a bonus for letters in the right place and none for duplicates.

    Likely answers vs. valid guesses

Base words are listed first; plurals and verb forms (rarely chosen as answers) are shown in italics so you can weigh them accordingly.

    Hard mode

Suggestions are restricted to words that satisfy every clue, matching the game’s hard-mode rule.

    One-click guessing

Click any suggestion or candidate to place it in the next row, then colour the tiles after the game responds.

    Private and offline

The word list is part of the page; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

    How repeated letters are handled

Wordle colours a guess by first marking greens, then giving yellows from left to right while copies of each letter remain in the answer. The helper reverses this: for every letter in a guess it counts the coloured (green or yellow) occurrences as a minimum, and if any occurrence is grey it treats that count as exact. For EERIE scored yellow-grey-yellow-grey-green against an answer with two Es, the first E is yellow and the second grey, so candidates must contain exactly two Es, one of them at the end and neither in position 1 or 2. Grey tiles also exclude their letter from that specific position.

    Choosing a good opening word

Strong starters use five different common letters, with vowels spread out. With no clues entered, the ranking reflects pure letter frequency across the list; popular choices such as CRANE, SLATE, TRACE and RAISE all score near the top. After one guess the ranking changes completely, because it is recalculated against the words that remain.

    • In normal mode a suggested “probe” word may not fit the clues itself — it is chosen to eliminate the most candidates.
    • When two or three words remain, the helper only suggests words that could be the answer, since probing would waste a turn.

    Wordle Helper FAQ

    Is this Wordle helper cheating?

That is up to you. Many people use it only for a hint after a bad start, to check a word is still possible, or to study strategy after finishing.

Why does a suggested word contain letters I already ruled out?

In normal mode the top pick is sometimes a probe: a word chosen to test several new letters at once rather than to be the answer. Turn on Hard mode to see only words that fit.

Why is the answer not in the list?

The list is derived from WordNet and covers most common English words, but the game’s own list differs slightly. If a guess is missing, the helper warns you yet still applies its clues.

What do the italic words mean?

They are plurals or verb forms such as CARES or BAKED. They are valid guesses but are seldom chosen as answers, so the base words are listed first.

How do I mark a letter that appears twice?

Colour each tile exactly as the game did. If the first copy is yellow and the second grey, the helper knows the answer has exactly one of that letter.

Does it work for other word-guessing games?

Any five-letter game with the same green/yellow/grey feedback works the same way, as long as it uses English words.
