Play Klondike solitaire online, free
This is classic Klondike solitaire, the patience game most people simply call solitaire. Build four foundation piles from Ace to King in each suit by moving cards between seven tableau columns, where you stack cards in descending order and alternating colours. Play with draw 1 for a relaxed game or draw 3 for the traditional challenge.
Everything you expect is here: drag and drop or a single tap to move cards, a double-click to send a card home, unlimited undo, hints, a timer and move counter, standard or Vegas scoring, and one-click auto-finish once every card is face up. With Winnable deals only switched on, each shuffle is checked by a built-in solver before it is dealt.
The game runs entirely in your browser. There are no adverts in the game, no account and nothing to install, and your win record is stored only on your device.
How to use the Solitaire (Klondike)
- Choose Draw 1 or Draw 3, a scoring mode, and whether you want winnable deals only. Changing an option deals a new game.
- Move cards by dragging them, or tap a card to move it to the best legal spot (the foundation first, then another column). Double-click a card to send it to its foundation.
- In the tableau, place a card on one that is one rank higher and the opposite colour — a red 9 on a black 10. Only a King (or a run starting with a King) can fill an empty column.
- Click the stock in the top-left corner to turn cards onto the waste pile. When the stock runs out, click its empty space to turn the waste over and go through again.
- Stuck? Press Hint, or Undo as many times as you like. When every card is face up and the stock is empty, Auto-finish plays the rest for you.
Solitaire (Klondike) features
Winnable deals
A depth-first solver with duplicate-position pruning searches each shuffle (in a background worker, so the page stays responsive) and only deals one it can solve.
Drag, tap or keyboard
Drag single cards or whole runs, tap for the smart move, double-click to send a card home, or use the keyboard: arrow keys move between piles, Enter or Space picks cards up and puts them down, U undoes and H shows a hint. Every move is announced to screen readers.
Unlimited undo
Every move, draw and automatic foundation move can be taken back, right back to the deal.
Standard and Vegas scoring
Standard scoring rewards foundation moves and revealed cards; Vegas starts at −$52, pays $5 per card on a foundation and limits passes through the deck.
Auto-move and auto-finish
Optionally, cards that can no longer be useful in the tableau move to the foundations by themselves; once all cards are face up, one click finishes the game.
Animated table
Cards glide to their new places, flip when uncovered, and a win sets off the classic bouncing-card cascade, drawn on a canvas. Reduced-motion settings switch the animation off.
Scoring rules used here
A standard score never goes below zero. No time bonus is added, so a slow, careful game scores the same as a fast one; the timer is there for your own records and pauses while the tab is hidden.
| Action | Standard | Vegas |
|---|---|---|
| Starting score | 0 | −$52 (the “price” of the deck) |
| Card to a foundation | +10 | +$5 |
| Waste card to the tableau | +5 | — |
| Turning over a tableau card | +5 | — |
| Card from a foundation back to the tableau | −15 | −$5 |
| Turning the waste over to reuse it | Draw 1: −100 each time. Draw 3: −20 from the fourth pass on | Not allowed in draw 1; up to three passes in draw 3 |
How the winnable-deal check works
About 8 in 10 random Klondike deals can be won if you could see every card, but far fewer are won in practice. When Winnable deals only is on, the game shuffles a deck, then lets a solver play the deal with full knowledge of the face-down cards. It tries likely-good moves first (uncovering hidden cards, building on the foundations) and skips positions it has already seen. If it finds a complete solution within its search limit the deal is used; otherwise the next shuffle is tried.
So a winnable deal is guaranteed to have a solution — but you play without seeing the hidden cards, so you can still choose a path that gets stuck. That is what Undo is for. With the option off you get completely random shuffles, some of which cannot be won by anyone.
Tips for winning more often
- Uncover face-down cards first, especially in the longest columns: they hold the cards you need.
- Do not empty a column unless you have a King ready to move into it.
- Before moving a card to a foundation, check you will not need it as a landing spot for a lower card of the other colour.
- In draw 3, think about which cards a draw will expose next pass — playing one card from the waste changes the whole sequence.
- Prefer moves from the tableau over moves from the waste when both are possible.
Solitaire (Klondike) FAQ
Is every solitaire game winnable?
No. Some random Klondike deals cannot be won however you play. Turn on Winnable deals only and every deal you get has been solved by the built-in solver first.
What is the difference between draw 1 and draw 3?
In draw 1 you turn one card at a time from the stock and can see every card. In draw 3 you turn three and can only play the top one, which makes the game considerably harder.
How does Vegas scoring work?
You start at −$52 and earn $5 for every card you put on a foundation, so you need 11 cards just to break even. Draw 1 allows one pass through the deck and draw 3 allows three.
Can I undo moves?
Yes, without limit, including draws, turning the deck over and cards that moved to the foundations automatically.
How do I play solitaire on a phone?
Tap a card to move it to the best place, or drag it with your finger. The table scales to the screen width and the column area grows as runs get longer.
Is this solitaire free?
Yes. It is free to play with no download, account or in-game purchases, and it works offline once the page has loaded.
