Convert Word to PDF without uploading your document
The Word to PDF converter turns a Microsoft Word .docx file into a PDF right in your browser. Your document is laid out page by page — with its fonts, headings, tables, pictures, headers and footers — and shown as a preview before you save anything.
Most online converters send your file to a server and email or stream a PDF back. This one never uploads the document: the .docx is opened, laid out and turned into a PDF on your own computer or phone. That matters for CVs, offer letters, contracts, medical reports and anything else with personal details.
You get two ways to save. Save as PDF uses your browser’s built-in print-to-PDF engine, so text stays sharp, selectable and searchable. Download image PDF captures each page as a high-resolution picture — handy on phones and when you want the file to look identical everywhere, but the text in it cannot be selected.
How to use the Word to PDF
- Drop a .docx file onto the upload area or click it to choose one.
- Check the page preview. Change “Page size” to A4 or US Letter if you need a particular paper size, and untick headers and footers if you don’t want them.
- Press “Save as PDF (selectable text)”. In the print dialog choose Save as PDF as the destination, keep margins on Default, and save.
- Or press “Download image PDF” to get a picture-based PDF file immediately; pick a higher quality for printing.
- Need several documents in one file? Combine the PDFs with Merge PDF.
Word to PDF features
Faithful page layout
The open-source docx-preview engine renders paragraphs, styles, fonts, tables, images, lists, headers, footers and footnotes as Word defines them.
Proper pagination
Page breaks and section breaks from the document are kept, and text that runs past the bottom margin flows onto a new page — split between paragraphs or table rows, with the header and footer repeated.
Selectable-text PDF
The print route produces a real text PDF with selectable, searchable words and working web links.
Image PDF in one click
Each page is captured at 144, 192 or 288 DPI and packed into a PDF with jsPDF — useful where printing is awkward, such as some mobile browsers.
Mixed page sizes
Portrait and landscape sections keep their own orientation in both the preview and the PDF.
Private by design
No uploads, no account, no watermark. The document is processed in a sandboxed frame on your device.

Fidelity: what to expect
Word documents are laid out by Word itself; a browser follows the same instructions but is not Word, so the result is very close rather than identical. The most common difference is fonts. If the document uses Calibri, Cambria or another font that isn’t installed on your device, the browser substitutes a similar one, which can move line and page breaks slightly. Fonts embedded in the .docx are used when present.
Advanced features such as text boxes wrapped around images, SmartArt, equations, charts, comments and tracked changes may be simplified or left out. Check the preview: what you see there is what goes into the PDF.
Old .doc files, ODT and RTF
This page opens the modern .docx format (Word 2007 and later). An old .doc file from Word 97–2003 uses a binary format that needs a full office suite, so it has its own page: DOC to PDF runs LibreOffice inside your browser. OpenDocument and RTF files have ODT to PDF and RTF to PDF. Apple Pages files must be exported to .docx in Pages first. Plain notes can go straight through Text to PDF instead.
Word to PDF FAQ
How do I convert Word to PDF for free?
Drop your .docx file above, check the preview, then press “Save as PDF” and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog — or press “Download image PDF”. It is free with no sign-up or watermark.
Is my Word document uploaded anywhere?
No. The document is opened and converted by JavaScript inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab clears it.
Why is the text in my downloaded PDF not selectable?
“Download image PDF” stores each page as a picture. Use “Save as PDF (selectable text)” to get a PDF whose text you can select, search and copy.
Can I convert a .doc file to PDF?
Not directly. Old .doc files use a binary format browsers can’t read. Save the file as .docx in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs first, then convert it here.
Why do some lines or pages break differently from Word?
Usually because a font used in the document isn’t installed on your device, so a similar font with slightly different widths is used. Installing the font, or embedding fonts when saving in Word, gives an exact match.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The preview and “Download image PDF” work in mobile browsers. Print-to-PDF also works on most phones, but some mobile browsers print the whole web page, in which case use the image PDF.
