A weight converter for kitchens, gyms, jewellers and shipping
Use this weight converter to switch between kilograms and pounds, grams and ounces, stone, tonnes and the specialist units used for gold, gems and Indian markets. Enter one number and see it in all 17 units — metric, imperial, troy and traditional — with the exact factor.
Strictly speaking, kilograms, pounds and ounces measure mass — the amount of matter — while weight is the force gravity puts on it. On Earth the two go together, so everyone says “weight”. This tool converts mass units, so answers hold anywhere: a 70 kg astronaut is still 70 kg on the Moon.
How to use the Weight Converter
- Enter the amount in the Value box — for example 68, 0.5 or 2 1/4.
- Pick the unit you have under From. Search “lb”, “stone”, “carat” or “tola” to find it quickly.
- Pick the unit you need under To. Tap the round swap button to reverse kg to lbs into lbs to kg.
- Read the result and its formula. Set Precision higher for lab or jewellery work, and use Copy to paste the number.
- Glance at the list below the result to see your value in every weight unit, or tap a common conversion such as “1 st → kg”.
Weight Converter features
Avoirdupois and troy kept apart
Everyday ounces and pounds are clearly separated from the heavier troy ounce used for gold and silver, so bullion prices are never mixed up.
Indian units included
Tola, seer and quintal sit alongside metric units — useful for gold rates, older family recipes and crop prices quoted per quintal.
Stone for UK body weight
Convert kilograms to stone (and back) the way British scales and doctors often quote body weight.
Exact legal factors
Built on the 1959 international pound of exactly 0.45359237 kg, so every imperial-to-metric answer is precise.
Gemstone and label units
Carats, grains, milligrams and micrograms (mcg) for jewellers, chemists and supplement labels.
Exact weight conversion factors
Since 2019 the kilogram has been defined by fixing the Planck constant. The avoirdupois pound was tied to it in 1959 at exactly 0.45359237 kg, and every other imperial unit follows from the pound.

Worked examples
Kilograms to pounds — divide by 0.45359237 (or multiply by about 2.20462). A 23 kg baggage allowance is 23 ÷ 0.45359237 = 50.71 lb.
Kilograms to stone and pounds. 70 kg ÷ 6.35029318 = 11.023 stone. 70 kg is 11 st 0.3 lb, or 154.3 lb.
Grams to ounces — divide by 28.349523125. 100 g is 3.527 oz.
Gold in tolas. One tola is 11.6638038 g, so a 10 g gold coin is 10 ÷ 11.6638038 = 0.857 tola. A troy ounce (31.1034768 g) is about 2.667 tolas.

mcg, mg and g: reading medicine and supplement labels
Each step in the metric ladder is a factor of 1,000: 1 g = 1,000 mg = 1,000,000 mcg. To go from mcg to mg, divide by 1,000 (2,500 mcg = 2.5 mg); from mg to mcg, multiply by 1,000 (0.25 mg = 250 mcg); from mg to g, divide by 1,000 (500 mg = 0.5 g). The prefixes are the SI prefixes “micro” (10⁻⁶) and “milli” (10⁻³); mcg and µg are the same unit.
Safety note: confusing mcg with mg is a thousand-fold error, which is why many hospitals avoid writing “µg” by hand. Use this as an arithmetic aid only; doses must come from the label, your pharmacist or prescriber. To turn a dose into millilitres of a liquid, use the mg to ml calculator.

Tips and common mistakes
- Troy vs ordinary ounces. Metal prices are per troy ounce, about 9.7% heavier than a kitchen-scale ounce (1 oz t = 1.0971 oz).
- “Ton” means three things. US short ton 907 kg, UK long ton 1,016 kg, metric tonne 1,000 kg. Contracts should say which.
- Carat or karat? The carat (ct) is 200 mg for gemstones; the karat (K) of gold purity is a ratio.
- Regional seers varied. The 80-tola seer was standardised under British rule; local markets used other sizes for centuries, so treat old records as approximate.

Divide micrograms by 1,000. 1,000 mcg = 1 mg, so 250 mcg = 0.25 mg. For mg to mcg multiply by 1,000.
Is weight the same as mass?
Not quite: mass is the amount of matter, weight is gravity’s pull on it. Every unit here is technically a unit of mass.
