Clothing, baby, hat and suit size converter for international sizes
Buying from a UK site in India or a US brand in Europe? This clothing size converter converts women’s dress and top sizes, jeans, men’s shirts, suits and trousers, baby and children’s clothes, hat sizes and bra sizes between the US, UK, EU (German), French, Italian, Australian, Japanese, Chinese and Indian systems and letter sizes. Pick a size to see every equivalent.
Not sure of your size? Enter your bust or chest, waist and hips, shirt neck, head circumference, or a child’s height or age, and a size is suggested from German body-measurement tables and retailer charts. Brands vary, sometimes by a whole size, so check the brand’s chart before you buy.

How the size systems relate
- UK, US and Australia: women’s US sizes are four below UK (UK 12 = US 8); Australia uses UK.
- Europe: German sizes are UK + 28 (UK 12 = 40); French are two above German, Italian four above. Some brands use UK + 26.
- Japan and China: Japanese women’s sizes are odd numbers (JIS L 4005), about 3 cm of bust apart; Chinese labels (GB/T 1335) read height/bust plus build (160/84A = 160 cm height, 84 cm bust).
- Men: jackets go by chest (inches in the UK and US, chest + 10 in Europe), shirts by collar (15.5 in ≈ 39–40 cm), trousers by waist and inside leg in inches.
- India: there is no label standard yet. NIFT released its INDIAsize body charts in January 2026 (3D scans of more than 26,000 people), but national labels are still in development and voluntary. Brands mostly use UK numbers or letters for women, collar cm for shirts, waist inches for trousers.
Baby and kids’ sizes, pants, suits, shirts and hats
- Babies and kids by age: EU sizes are the child’s height in cm (EN 13402), so age only guesses height. US baby labels (NB, 3M, 6M) are names, not ages (ASTM D4910). When between sizes, go larger. Age bands follow Marks & Spencer and Burt’s Bees charts and roughly track median CDC and WHO heights.
- Pant size and inseam: measure your waist; from height and weight alone, our crude rule estimates it (±6 cm or more). Inseam ≈ 0.45 × height, varying with legs.
- Suit size: a UK or US jacket size is the chest in inches (even numbers); trouser waist is jacket minus the drop (standard 6: 40 jacket, 34 trousers). Short, regular, long: under 170, 170–180, over 180 cm.
- Shirt size: collar = neck plus about ½ in, rounded up to the next half inch (15 in neck, 15½ collar); chest gives the letter. Women and children have own charts.
- Hat size: US = head in inches ÷ π to the nearest ⅛ (22.4 in ≈ 7⅛); UK is usually one ⅛ smaller; EU is the head in cm.
Worked example: finding a dress size
Bust 88 cm, waist 72 cm, hips 97 cm each fall in German size 38: German 38 = UK 10 = US 6 = French 40 = Italian 42. With 103 cm hips it suggests 42 (UK 14), so it fits everywhere.
How to measure yourself
Charts use the European labelling standard EN 13402, ISO 8559 measuring rules and retailer charts (Marks & Spencer, Next, Reiss, Levi’s, German size tables, and size.ly and Tenth Street Hats for hats; checked October 2026). Conversions are approximate and brand-dependent. Convert units with the length converter; for shoes, the shoe size converter.
- Bust or chest: fullest part, tape level (men: under the arms, around the shoulder blades).
- Waist: natural waist, the narrowest part. Hips: widest part of your seat.
- Neck: base of the neck. Head: above the eyebrows and ears. Children: height without shoes, against a wall.
Bra sizes
UK and US bands are in inches (30, 32, 34…), EU bands in centimetres (65, 70, 75…), French bands are EU + 15 and Australian bands UK − 22, so UK 34 = EU 75 = FR 90 = AU 12. The UK uses double-letter cups (DD, FF, GG) where Europe uses single letters: UK 34DD = EU 75E, and UK 32FF = EU 70H = US 32H. Brands agree up to UK K; above F, Australian brands disagree, and the converter says so.
