Sankashti Chaturthi dates and moonrise for your city
This free page lists every Sankashti Chaturthi of a year from 1900 to 2099 — the monthly fast for Lord Ganesha on the fourth day of the waning Moon — with its traditional name, the moment Chaturthi begins and ends, and the moonrise time at which the fast is broken after offering arghya to the Moon. Choose your city and the moonrise is worked out for it, so the page works as a Sankashti Chaturthi 2026 USA calendar as well as for India.
Tuesdays are marked as Angaraki Chaturthi, and the extra month of a leap year carries the Vibhuvana Sankashti. A month calendar shows the tithi at every sunrise, and the list exports to CSV or to your phone’s calendar.

How the Sankashti date is chosen
Sankashti is kept on the day Krishna paksha Chaturthi is current at moonrise, because the fast ends with the sight of the Moon. Chaturthi lasts roughly a day and the Moon rises about 50 minutes later each evening, so most months have one clear date; in some months Chaturthi has begun after one moonrise and ended before the next, and then almanacs keep the day on which Chaturthi is current at sunrise. That happened on 10 October 2025 and 24 February 2027 in New Delhi.
Moonrise here is the moment the centre of the Moon, seen from your place, reaches the horizon without refraction — the convention Drik Panchang uses. For 2025, 2026 and 2027 every date and name matches Drik Panchang’s published lists for New Delhi, with moonrise times within a few minutes (checked 25 October 2026). Hills, buildings and haze can delay the moment you actually see the Moon.

Regional practice and limits
The names follow the purnimanta month in which the dark half falls, as in north Indian and Maharashtrian lists. The Magha Sankashti is also called Sakat Chauth, and in Tamil Nadu the monthly fast is known as Sankatahara Chaturthi. Some families break the fast at moonrise even when the Moon is hidden by cloud, others wait until it is seen; follow your own tradition and priest.
This page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice, and fasting can be unsafe with some health conditions or in pregnancy — ask a doctor. For the other monthly fasts see Ekadashi dates and Pradosh vrat dates, or the month list on the vrat calendar.
