Convert PDF tables to Excel with real numbers

The PDF to Excel converter finds the tables in a PDF and puts them into an Excel workbook (.xlsx) you can sort, filter and total. It works with bank and card statements, invoices, price lists, mark sheets, sales reports and any other PDF that lists figures in rows and columns.

Copying a table out of a PDF usually gives you one long line of text. This tool instead reads where every piece of text sits on the page, groups text that shares a baseline into rows and finds column boundaries from the gaps that line up from row to row. Figures such as 1,234.56, Indian-style 1,23,456, (500.00) and 12.5% become proper number cells, so formulas work immediately.

Everything runs in your browser. Statements and payslips are never uploaded to a server, which is why this is a safer choice than converters that process files remotely.

How to use the PDF to Excel

  1. Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click it to choose one. Tables are detected straight away.
  2. Look through the preview — use the sheet tabs to switch between pages. Number cells are shown in green.
  3. Choose “One per page” to get a sheet for every page, or “All on one sheet” to stack every page into a single list, which is ideal for multi-page statements.
  4. Optionally limit the pages, untick “Keep text outside tables” to drop titles and notes, or untick number conversion to keep every cell exactly as written.
  5. Press “Download Excel (.xlsx)”, or “Download CSV” for the sheet you are viewing.

PDF to Excel features

Column detection

Columns are found from gaps that are shared by the rows of a table, so right-aligned figures and left-aligned text land in the right cells.

Real number cells

Thousand separators, Indian lakh/crore grouping, currency symbols (₹, $, £, €), minus signs, brackets for negatives and percentages are understood, and the original display format is kept.

Codes stay as text

Values with leading zeros such as 007 or PIN codes, and numbers longer than 15 digits such as account numbers, are kept as text so nothing is lost.

Sheet per page or one sheet

Keep pages separate or merge everything into one sheet, ready for a pivot table.

Live preview

A spreadsheet-style grid shows exactly what will be written before you download.

XLSX and CSV

Download a formatted Excel workbook, or a UTF-8 CSV that opens in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice and Numbers.

How numbers are converted

With “Turn figures into number cells” on, each cell is checked against common number styles. Anything that does not clearly match stays as text, so dates, IDs and phone numbers are not mangled.

Getting the best result

  • Scanned statements have no text to read. Run them through PDF OCR first, then convert the OCR’d PDF here.
  • Multi-page statements: choose “All on one sheet” and untick “Keep text outside tables” to get one clean list of transactions.
  • Wrapped cells: a description that wraps onto a second line appears as an extra row with only that column filled — join it in Excel if needed.
  • European numbers such as 1.234,56 are kept as text because they are ambiguous; use Find and Replace in Excel to convert them.
  • Need the words rather than the grid? Use PDF to Text or PDF to Word.

Limits worth knowing

Table detection works from text positions, not from drawn lines, so cell borders, colours and merged-cell layouts are not copied — you get clean data rather than a pixel-perfect copy. Very irregular layouts, such as forms with text scattered across the page, may need a little tidying after download. To turn a spreadsheet back into a printable document, use Excel to PDF.

PDF to Excel FAQ

How do I convert a PDF to Excel for free?

Drop the PDF above, check the preview and press “Download Excel (.xlsx)”. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark.

Can I convert a bank statement PDF to Excel?

Yes. Statements downloaded from net banking contain real text, so their transaction tables convert well. Choose “All on one sheet” to combine every page. Your statement never leaves your device.

Why are some numbers left as text?

Values with leading zeros, more than 15 digits or an unusual format (such as 1.234,56) are kept as text on purpose so that codes and account numbers are not changed. You can also switch number conversion off entirely.

Does PDF to Excel work with scanned PDFs?

Not directly — a scan is a picture with no text cells. Use PDF OCR to add a text layer first, then convert it here.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is read by JavaScript in your browser, and the Excel file is created on your device.

Can I open the result in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive or import the CSV into Google Sheets; both keep numbers as numbers.
