A packing list generator that adapts to your trip
This packing list generator builds a checklist from four facts about your trip — the kind of trip, how many days, the climate and what you plan to do — instead of handing you a generic list of two hundred things. A five-day beach holiday in a hot climate gets swimwear, sunscreen, insect repellent and a beach towel; a two-week cold-weather hike gets thermals, boots, a headlamp, blister plasters and a reminder to wash clothes mid-trip. Quantities for tops, underwear and socks scale with the number of days and cap at a week.
The list is fully editable: tick things as they go into the bag, change quantities, delete what you do not need and add your own items to any category. Then print it, download it as a PDF or PNG, or copy it as a plain-text checklist to paste into a notes app or a message to the family.
Your list and ticks are stored in your browser so they are still there the night before you leave. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use the Packing List Generator
- Choose the Trip type (beach, city, business, hiking/camping, winter/ski, road trip or family), the number of Days and the Climate.
- Tick the Activities and extras that apply — swimming, hiking, a formal event, gym, photography, laptop work, international travel, or travelling with a baby.
- Press Generate list. Categories appear with suggested items and quantities.
- Edit freely: tick items off as you pack, change a quantity, remove an item with the ×, or type a new one in “Add an item…” and press Enter.
- Use Download PDF, Download PNG, Print or Copy as text. Press Untick all to reuse the list for the return journey.
Packing List Generator features
Trip-aware suggestions
Seven trip types, five climates and eight activity switches combine into a list that fits the trip rather than a one-size-fits-all template.
Quantities that scale
Tops and underwear follow the number of days, cap at seven and eight (with a laundry reminder for longer trips), and swimwear doubles on trips over three days.
Documents and before-you-leave checks
Passport validity, visas, insurance, bank notification, online check-in and the household chores people forget, in their own categories.
Fully editable and ticked
Every item has a checkbox and a quantity field; add or delete items in any category. The summary counts what is packed and what is left.
Print, PDF, PNG and text
A two-column printable page with checkboxes (ticked items shown ticked), a 150 dpi PNG, and a Markdown-style text list for notes apps and messages.
Saved on your device
The list, including ticks, persists in local storage between visits until you generate a new one.

Packing tips that save space and stress
- Pack for a week, not the trip. Beyond seven days, washing clothes beats carrying them — most hotels and hostels have a machine, and a sink and travel detergent work for small items. That is why the generator caps clothing at a week.
- Lay everything out first, tick the list, then pack. Items ticked on screen appear ticked on the printed list, so a printed copy doubles as the unpacking list at the other end.
- Keep documents and medicines in hand luggage, with a photo of your passport and prescriptions on your phone and in cloud storage.
- Check the forecast and the plug type the day before: the climate setting here is a guide, not a forecast. The time zone converter and currency converter cover the other two questions people ask at the airport.
- Driving? Estimate fuel with the fuel cost calculator and keep the running to-do list in the to-do list.
Packing List Generator FAQ
How does the packing list generator decide quantities?
Tops equal the number of days up to seven; underwear and socks are days plus one up to eight; trousers are roughly one per three days up to four; swimwear is two on trips longer than three days. Edit any quantity if your habits differ.
Can I add my own items?
Yes. Each category has an “Add an item…” box — type the item and press Enter or Add. Added items are saved with the list and appear on the printout and in the copied text.
Will my list still be there tomorrow?
Yes, on the same device and browser: the list and its ticks are stored locally. Generating a new list replaces it, so copy or download the old one first if you want to keep it.
Does it cover international travel documents?
Tick “International travel” to add passport validity (six months is a common entry requirement), visa printouts, insurance details, currency or a forex card and a plug adapter. Always confirm entry rules for your destination.
Can I use the list for the return trip?
Press “Untick all” and reuse it as an unpacking or re-packing list. The printed version has empty boxes for anything not ticked.
Is the packing list generator free?
Yes — no sign-up, no watermark and no limit. It runs entirely in your browser.
