A lorry receipt (LR copy) format for transporters
This free lorry receipt generator makes the LR copy a transporter hands over when it accepts goods for carriage by road: a serially numbered consignment note with the consignor and consignee, the vehicle number, origin and destination, the packages and their weights, the freight and whether it is paid, to pay or to be billed, and who pays GST on it. One click prints the consignor, consignee, driver and office copies in a single PDF.
It is made for transport companies and booking offices issuing LRs under their own name. It is a template, not a government form: you are responsible for the contents, so check your local legal and GST requirements. Everything stays in your browser, including your logo and signature.

What a consignment note should contain
Under GST, a goods transport agency (GTA) is defined in Notification 12/2017-Central Tax (Rate) as a person who provides a service in relation to transport of goods by road and issues a consignment note, by whatever name called — so the LR is what makes a transporter a GTA. The CBIC’s taxpayer guide on GTAs says the term is not defined in the GST law and points to the old Service Tax Rules (rule 4B): a serially numbered document issued against receipt of goods for transport by road, containing the names of the consignor and consignee, the registration number of the goods carriage, details of the goods, the place of origin and destination, and the person liable to pay tax — consignor, consignee or the GTA.

Freight terms and GST, in short
GST rates for GTA services have changed several times, most recently with the rate changes from 22 September 2025, so this tool does not assume one: enter the rate for the option you have chosen and confirm it against the current CBIC notification.
| On the LR | Meaning |
|---|---|
| To pay | The consignee pays the freight when taking delivery. |
| Paid | The consignor has paid the freight at booking. |
| To be billed (TBB) | Freight goes on the customer’s account and is invoiced later. |
| Reverse charge | The registered consignor or consignee pays GST on the freight directly. |
| Forward charge | The transporter charges GST on the LR and pays it. |
Worked example
Fifty cartons and twelve drums weigh 2,330 kg but are charged at 2,500 kg. At ₹3.20 per kg, basic freight is ₹8,000; loading ₹400, door delivery ₹600 and the LR charge ₹50 bring it to ₹9,050, to pay, with GST payable by the consignee under reverse charge. Plan the load with the truck load calculator, price the trip with the road freight cost calculator, and check e-way bill validity for the distance with the e-way bill validity calculator.
Lorry Receipt (LR) Generator FAQ
What is an LR copy in transport?
An LR (lorry receipt) copy is the consignment note a transporter issues on accepting goods: it records the consignor, consignee, vehicle, packages, weight and freight, and the consignee copy is usually needed to take delivery.
What is the LR copy format?
There is no single official format. A typical LR has a serial number and date, origin and destination, vehicle number, consignor and consignee with GSTIN, packages with description and weights, invoice and e-way bill numbers, freight terms, who pays GST, conditions and signatures.
Can I download the LR copy format in Excel?
This tool produces a ready PDF instead, with totals and amount in words worked out for you. Export JSON keeps every LR you saved.
Who pays GST on lorry freight?
It depends on who the recipient is and the option the GTA has chosen: under reverse charge a registered consignor or consignee pays it; under forward charge the transporter charges it on the LR. Ask your tax adviser which applies to you.
Is an LR the same as an e-way bill?
No. The LR is the transporter’s receipt for the goods; the e-way bill is an electronic declaration on the GST portal. Its transport document number is often the LR number.
Can I use this to make another transporter’s LR?
No. Use it only for consignment notes issued by your own business, under your own name.
