KCET rank calculator built on KEA’s 50:50 merit rule
This KCET rank calculator works out the engineering merit score the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) uses to rank UGCET candidates. KEA’s 2026 Information Bulletin says the Engineering/Technology rank list is prepared from the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics marks in the CET and in the qualifying examination (2nd PUC or Class 12), “taken in equal proportions” — 50 % from each. Enter your CET and board marks and you get the merit to eight decimals, the way the KEA result sheet prints it.
For the rank, the honest answer is that KEA does not publish a KCET marks-vs-rank table. The calculator therefore estimates a rank only between reference points: the ten merit scores on KEA’s official 2026 top-10 engineering list are built in, and you can add pairs from real result sheets to cover the range you care about. All the arithmetic runs in your browser.
How to use the KCET Rank Calculator (Engineering Merit, 50:50)
- Enter your KCET marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (each out of 60).
- Enter your 2nd PUC / Class 12 marks in the same subjects and the maximum per subject (usually 100). For Second PUC 2026, use the higher of Exam-1 and Exam-2.
- Choose your category to check the eligibility percentage.
- Read the merit, the 50 % parts and the working; the table shows how your merit moves with other CET marks.
- To estimate a rank, add “merit, rank” lines you trust below the KEA top-10 points.
KCET Rank Calculator (Engineering Merit, 50:50) features
KEA’s exact formula
Merit = 50 × CET PCM ÷ 180 + 50 × board PCM ÷ maximum, shown to eight decimals like the result sheet.
Checked against KEA’s list
176/180 in CET with 299/300 in PUC gives 98.72222222; KEA printed 98.72222223 for the fourth-ranked candidate.
No invented ranks
Ranks are interpolated only between reference points — official ones or ones you enter — never from guessed tables.
Eligibility check
45 % aggregate for general merit and 40 % for Karnataka SC, ST, Category-I and OBC groups, as in the bulletin.
What-if table
Your merit for CET totals from 60 to 180 with the same board marks.
How KEA calculates the KCET engineering merit
Each CET subject has 60 one-mark multiple-choice questions in 80 minutes, with no negative marking, so CET PCM is out of 180. Your board PCM is converted to a percentage of its maximum. KEA takes the two in equal proportions: merit = 50 × CET ÷ 180 + 50 × board ÷ maximum, out of 100.
Worked example: CET 45 + 48 + 42 = 135 gives 50 × 135 ÷ 180 = 37.5. Board 85 + 88 + 90 = 263 of 300 gives 50 × 263 ÷ 300 = 43.83333333. Merit = 81.33333333. A higher board percentage is worth exactly as much as the same higher CET percentage, which is why “KCET rank vs marks” depends on your PUC marks too.
KEA’s note of 13 April 2026 says ranks use the highest marks a candidate obtained in the 2026 Second PUC Exam-1 and Exam-2. KEA’s published values sometimes end one digit higher in the eighth decimal (98.72222223 where the formula gives 98.72222222), which does not change your position.
Tie-breaks and eligibility
- Equal merit is broken by CET Mathematics marks, then CET Physics, then the same subjects in the qualifying examination, then age (the elder candidate first), and finally by lots.
- To be eligible for engineering you need 45 % aggregate in the optional subjects of the qualifying examination (40 % for Karnataka SC, ST, Category-I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B). Biotechnology, Biology, Electronics or Computer Science can stand in for Chemistry for eligibility only — never for the rank.
- Farm science courses use Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology in equal proportions, B.Pharm and Pharm-D use CET marks only, and B.Arch uses NATA — this calculator covers the engineering list.
Why the rank needs reference points
A rank depends on how every other candidate scored, and KEA publishes only the rank list itself, not a distribution of merit scores. The top-10 list fixes the very top (99.44444445 for first, 98.44444445 for tenth in 2026). Lower down, the calculator interpolates on a log scale between the nearest pairs you supply, so two or three real “merit, rank” results close to yours give a far better estimate than anything generic. For other exams, the MHT CET percentile predictor, TNEA cutoff calculator and percentile to rank calculator work from their own published data.
KCET Rank Calculator (Engineering Merit, 50:50) FAQ
How is KCET rank calculated?
KEA ranks engineering candidates by merit = 50 % of CET PCM marks (out of 180) + 50 % of board PCM marks, then breaks ties by CET Mathematics, CET Physics, board marks and age.
Is this a KCET rank predictor for 2026?
It calculates your exact merit and estimates a rank between reference points. KEA’s 2026 top-10 merits are built in; add real merit–rank pairs near your score for a useful estimate below the top ten.
Do 2nd PUC marks matter for KCET rank?
Yes — they are half of the merit. One percentage point in PUC PCM is worth 0.5 merit, exactly as much as one percentage point in CET PCM.
Are practical marks counted?
KEA uses the PCM marks of your qualifying examination as recorded on its result sheet. Check the board marks printed there and enter the same figures.
What if I wrote both Second PUC Exam-1 and Exam-2?
KEA’s note of 13 April 2026 says the highest marks obtained in Exam-1 and Exam-2 are used. Enter those.
Is there negative marking in KCET?
No. Each question carries one mark and wrong answers lose nothing, but a question with more than one answer marked gets no mark.
