UK holiday entitlement calculator
This holiday entitlement calculator works out statutory paid holiday in the UK: 5.6 weeks a year, capped at 28 days. Choose how you work — set days, set hours, a shift pattern, or irregular hours — and it shows your yearly entitlement in days, hours or shifts. It handles part-time workers (3 days a week = 16.8 days), compressed hours, rotating shifts and contracts that add bank holidays on top.
It also covers part of a year. Add the date you started to see your holiday for the rest of the leave year and how much you can take month by month in your first year, or add a leaving date to see the holiday entitlement when leaving a job — the untaken days your employer must pay, with an optional day rate to value them. For zero-hours, casual and term-time staff, the irregular-hours mode applies the 12.07% accrual and rolled-up holiday pay rules.

How UK holiday entitlement is worked out
Set days: days worked a week × 5.6, up to 28. Five days a week = 28 days; three days = 16.8 days; six days = still 28. Set hours: hours a week × 5.6, capped at 28 average days — 37.5 hours over five days = 210 hours. Shifts: (shifts in the pattern ÷ days in the pattern) × 7 gives shifts a week; × 5.6 gives shifts a year. Four on, four off is 3.5 shifts a week, or 19.6 shifts of holiday.
Bank holidays are not an extra legal right: an employer can count them in the 5.6 weeks. If your contract gives them on top, enter them as extra days.
Starting or leaving part way through the year
A starter gets the share of the year left: someone starting on 15 April with a 1 January leave year has 261 of 365 days left, so 28 × 261 ÷ 365 = 20.02 days. In the first year, holiday builds up at one-twelfth on the first day of each month, rounded up to the next half day — 2.5 days in the first month, 5 after two months, 7 after three.
A leaver is paid for statutory holiday earned but not taken: (yearly entitlement × share of the leave year worked) − holiday taken. A three-day-a-week worker leaving on 30 June (181 days) who has taken 5 days is owed 16.8 × 181 ÷ 365 − 5 = 3.33 days; at £120 a day that is £399.72. If you took more than you earned, the employer can only deduct it if this was agreed in writing.
Irregular hours and part-year workers: 12.07%
For leave years starting on or after 1 April 2024, workers whose hours are wholly or mostly variable, and those who work only part of the year, accrue holiday at 12.07% of the hours worked in each pay period — 5.6 weeks ÷ the 46.4 weeks worked in a year. Thirty hours earns 3.621 hours, rounded to 4; under half an hour is dropped. Employers may instead pay rolled-up holiday pay of 12.07% on top of each pay packet, shown separately on the payslip. To see what holiday pay means for take-home pay, use the UK take-home pay calculator; for shift rotas, the shift pattern calendar.
Holiday Entitlement Calculator (UK) FAQ
How much holiday am I entitled to in the UK?
At least 5.6 weeks a year: 28 days for a five-day week, capped at 28 days however many days you work. The holiday entitlement calculator works it out for your pattern.
How is holiday entitlement calculated for part-time workers?
Multiply the days you work a week by 5.6 — 3 days gives 16.8 days — or your weekly hours by 5.6 for hours.
How do I calculate holiday entitlement when leaving a job?
Multiply your yearly entitlement by the share of the leave year you worked, then subtract holiday taken. Enter your leaving date and holiday taken to see the days and their value.
What is the 12.07% holiday rule?
For irregular-hours and part-year workers, holiday accrues at 12.07% of hours worked each pay period, for leave years starting on or after 1 April 2024.
Do bank holidays count as holiday?
They can. Employers may include them in the 5.6 weeks; if your contract gives them in addition, add them as extra days.
Is this legal advice?
No. It applies the Working Time Regulations for Great Britain as of October 2026; your contract or a tribunal may give a different answer in your case.
