Funding Rate Calculator – Crypto Perpetual Funding Fees

Funding paid or received on a perpetual long or short over any holding period, with the annualised rate.

Funding rates change every interval. Type the rate your exchange shows; this page holds it constant unless you paste a list. Arithmetic, not trading advice.

Minus = you pay, plus = you receive. Exchanges charge funding on the mark-price value at each funding time and only if you hold the position at that moment.

How the crypto funding rate calculator works

Perpetual futures have no expiry date, so exchanges keep their price close to the spot price with funding: at fixed times, traders on one side pay traders on the other. This funding rate calculator shows how much you pay or receive on a long or short over any holding period, from the funding rate per interval, and turns that rate into a daily and annualised figure you can compare with interest, staking yield or the cost of a loan.

The rule is the same on every major exchange: funding = position value × funding rate, charged once per funding interval. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs. You type every number yourself — nothing is fetched from an exchange — and the page works it out in your browser.

Funding is only one cost of a leveraged trade. Fees, slippage and liquidation risk matter too, and rates change every interval. This page does arithmetic for the inputs you give it; it is not trading advice.

How to use the Crypto Funding Rate Calculator

  1. Choose Long or Short, and enter the position value — or the coin size and mark price.
  2. Type the funding rate per interval as shown on your exchange (for example 0.01%), and pick the interval: 8 hours, 4 hours, 1 hour or a custom length.
  3. Enter the holding period in days or hours, or the exact number of funding payments.
  4. Optionally add your leverage to see funding as a share of your margin, or paste a list of past rates.
  5. Read the total paid or received, the annualised rate and the comparison table, and copy the result.

Crypto Funding Rate Calculator features

Paid or received

The sign of the rate and your side decide who pays; the result says so in words and colour.

Any interval

8-hourly (three a day), 4-hourly, hourly, or a custom interval in hours.

Annualised rate

Rate per interval × payments per year — 0.01% every 8 hours is 10.95% a year, before compounding.

Share of margin

With leverage, funding is measured against the margin you put up, where it bites hardest.

Rate history

Paste one rate per line to add up real, changing funding instead of a constant rate.

The funding formula

An exchange help centre states it as Funding Amount = Nominal Value of Positions × Funding Rate, where the nominal value is the mark price times the position size (checked 24 October 2026). Over a holding period the total is the position value × the sum of the rates at each funding time you hold through. With a constant rate that is value × rate × number of intervals.

The annualised rate here is the average rate per interval × the number of intervals in a year (8,760 hours ÷ the interval). It is a simple rate: funding is paid in cash rather than added to the position, so there is no compounding.

Worked example: a 10,000 USDT long held for 30 days with funding at +0.01% every 8 hours pays 10,000 × 0.0001 = 1 USDT per payment. Thirty days have 90 payments, so the long pays 90 USDT and a short of the same size receives 90 USDT. Annualised, 0.01% × 1,095 payments = 10.95% a year. At 5× leverage the margin is 2,000 USDT, so a month of funding costs 4.5% of it.

Timing, intervals and what changes the number

  • You pay only if you hold at the funding time. Opening just after a funding timestamp and closing just before the next one can avoid a payment; the page counts whole intervals in your period.
  • Intervals differ. Many exchanges fund every 8 hours (often 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC) but can shorten the interval in volatile markets; some contracts fund every 4 hours or every hour.
  • Rates move. The rate is reset for each interval from the gap between the perpetual and the index price, and is usually capped. Paste the history to add up real rates.
  • Value moves. Funding is charged on the mark-price value at each funding time, so a position that grows in value pays more.

Funding rate arbitrage (cash and carry)

Traders who hold spot coins and short the same amount of the perpetual are roughly price-neutral and collect funding while it stays positive. The annualised rate is a quick way to judge whether the carry beats fees and the risk that the rate turns negative. The crypto arbitrage calculator covers price gaps between exchanges, and the liquidation price calculator shows how far the short leg can move against you.

Crypto Funding Rate Calculator FAQ

How do you calculate the funding rate payment?

Multiply the position value (size × mark price) by the funding rate for that interval. A 10,000 USDT position at 0.01% pays or receives 1 USDT per funding time.

Who pays funding, longs or shorts?

When the funding rate is positive, longs pay shorts. When it is negative, shorts pay longs.

How do I annualise a funding rate?

Multiply the rate per interval by the number of intervals in a year: 0.01% every 8 hours × 1,095 = 10.95%; 0.01% every hour × 8,760 = 87.6%.

Is funding charged on my margin or my position?

On the full position value, not the margin. With leverage, funding is a larger share of your margin — use the leverage field to see it.

Does this funding rate calculator fetch live rates?

No. Type the rate from your exchange, or paste a list of past rates; nothing leaves your browser.
