Advance tax calculator for tax year 2026-27
If your tax for the year is more than what your employer or clients deduct at source, you must pay the difference in advance, in instalments, during the year. This advance tax calculator estimates your tax for tax year 2026-27 (1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027) from salary, business or professional income, capital gains and other income, subtracts TDS and TCS, and tells you how much to pay by each due date — 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March.
Enter what you have paid, or plan to pay, and it works out interest under sections 234C (instalments paid late or short) and 234B (less than 90% paid by 31 March), with a what-if table comparing paying on time, paying everything in March and paying nothing until you file. Presumptive income under 44AD or 44ADA switches to the single 15 March instalment.
It uses the same slabs, rebate and surcharge as the income tax calculator, runs in your browser, and is an informational estimate, not tax advice.

Advance tax due dates for tax year 2026-27
Tax paid by 31 March still counts as advance tax for 234B. If less than 90% of the tax due after TDS has been paid by then, 234B charges 1% for every month or part from April until you pay the rest.
| Due date | Cumulative advance tax | 234C interest if short |
|---|---|---|
| 15 June 2026 | 15% (no interest if 12% paid) | 1% × 3 months |
| 15 September 2026 | 45% (no interest if 36% paid) | 1% × 3 months |
| 15 December 2026 | 75% | 1% × 3 months |
| 15 March 2027 | 100% (all of it under 44AD/44ADA) | 1% × 1 month |
Worked example: a freelancer with ₹20 lakh of fees
Professional profit of ₹20,00,000 plus ₹50,000 interest, new regime: tax ₹2,12,500 + 4% cess = ₹2,21,000. Clients deducted ₹1,00,000 under section 194J, leaving ₹1,21,000 of advance tax — ₹18,150 by 15 June, ₹54,450 in total by 15 September, ₹90,750 by 15 December and ₹1,21,000 by 15 March.
Miss the December instalment and catch up in March: the shortfall of ₹36,300 costs 3% = ₹1,089 under 234C. Pay nothing at all until 31 July 2027: 234C is ₹6,106 and 234B four months at 1% on ₹1,21,000 is ₹4,840 — ₹10,946 in interest.
Things this estimate does not cover
- Capital gains or dividends that arise after an instalment date: 234C is not charged on them if you pay the tax in the remaining instalments. This calculator spreads all income evenly.
- Marginal relief when capital gains at special rates are mixed with other income, losses carried forward, alternative minimum tax and non-residents.
- Interest under 234A for filing late — the 234A, 234B and 234C interest calculator works it out from your actual payment and filing dates. In the Income-tax Act, 2025, 234A, 234B and 234C are sections 423, 424 and 425. The tax and GST compliance calendar lists every due date. Check your TDS with the TDS calculator and gains with the capital gains tax calculator.
