Ascendant 28°27′ Libra tropical · 4°43′ Libra sidereal (lagna). Houses: Placidus (tropical) · whole sign from the lagna (sidereal).

Apparent geocentric longitudes: Sun from Meeus, planets from Schlyter’s orbital elements with the main Jupiter–Saturn perturbations, ΔT and nutation applied; sidereal positions subtract the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. Checked against NASA JPL Horizons for 1950–2023 (within 2 arc-minutes) and Horizons sign-entry times for 2023 (a 2′ tolerance: minutes for Venus, up to about two hours for slow Jupiter and Saturn).

Venus sign calculator: where Venus, Mars and Mercury were when you were born

This free Venus sign calculator shows the zodiac sign Venus occupied on your birth date, together with Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun. Each position is given in the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology and the sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology (Lahiri ayanamsa), with the exact degree and whether the planet was retrograde.

You can use it as a Venus sign calculator without birth time. Venus moves about a degree a day and spends three to four weeks in each sign, so the date is usually enough. On the few days a year when a planet changes sign, the tool times the change to the minute and tells you that the birth time decides it. Add the time and place to see the house each planet falls in. Like any astrology tool it is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.

How to use the Venus Sign Calculator

  1. Enter the Date of birth. If you do not know the time, tick Birth time unknown; local noon is used and the whole day is checked for sign changes.
  2. With a known time, enter the Time of birth and choose the Birth place; the Time zone fills in and handles daylight saving.
  3. Choose Tropical (Western) or Sidereal (Vedic, Lahiri) for the three headline signs; the table always shows both.
  4. Read the table: sign and degree in each zodiac, retrograde motion, the house (Placidus and whole sign) and any sign change on that day.
  5. Use Copy result to keep the list as text.

Venus Sign Calculator features

Five planets and the Sun

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn with the Sun for reference, each to the arc-minute.

Tropical and sidereal

Western signs from the equinox and Vedic signs with the Lahiri ayanamsa, side by side; the difference is about 24° today.

Ingress days flagged

Every sign change during the local day of birth is found by bisection and shown with its time.

Houses with a birth time

Placidus houses for the tropical chart and whole-sign houses from the sidereal lagna, for the “Venus sign and house” question.

Animated wheel

The planets sit on a zodiac wheel and glide to their sidereal places when you switch zodiacs.

How the planet signs are calculated

The birth time is converted to Universal Time with the browser’s time-zone database. For that instant the geocentric ecliptic longitude of each planet is computed from orbital elements, corrected for ΔT, the main Jupiter–Saturn perturbations and nutation. Dividing the longitude by 30° gives the tropical sign, counted from 0° Aries at the March equinox. Subtracting the Lahiri ayanamsa — 23.86° in 2000, growing by about 50″ a year — gives the sidereal longitude and the Vedic sign.

Worked example: on 17 September 1950 at 05:30 UT Venus stood at 158.86° tropical, which is 8°51′ Virgo. The Lahiri ayanamsa then was 23.17°, so the sidereal longitude was 135.69°, or 15°41′ Leo — a Virgo Venus in Western astrology and a Leo (Simha) Shukra in Vedic astrology.

How long each planet stays in a sign

Mercury and Venus never stray far from the Sun, so they are usually in the Sun’s sign or a neighbouring one. Retrograde loops make a planet stay longer or re-enter the previous sign.

PlanetTypical time in one signRetrograde
Mercury2–3 weeks (up to about 2 months when retrograde)3–4 times a year, about 3 weeks
Venus3–5 weeks (about 4 months when retrograde)every 19 months, about 6 weeks
Marsabout 6–7 weeks (up to 7 months when retrograde)every 26 months, about 10 weeks
Jupiterabout 1 yearevery year, about 4 months
Saturnabout 2½ yearsevery year, about 4½ months

Why sites give different Venus signs

Three reasons cover nearly every disagreement. The zodiac: a tropical Venus sign is usually one sign later than the sidereal one. The time zone: a birth entered in the wrong zone shifts the moment by hours, which matters on an ingress day. And the birth time itself, on the days when a planet changes sign. For the full chart see the birth chart calculator or, in the Vedic style, the kundli generator; the sun, moon and rising calculator covers the faster-moving Moon and ascendant.

Venus Sign Calculator FAQ

Can I use the Venus sign calculator without birth time?

Yes. Venus rarely changes sign on a given day, so the date normally decides it. If it did change sign on your birth date, the tool shows the time of the change and which sign applies before and after.

What is my Venus sign in Vedic astrology?

Switch to Sidereal (Vedic, Lahiri). The sidereal sign subtracts the ayanamsa of about 24°, so it is often the sign before your Western Venus sign.

How do I find which house Venus is in?

Enter the exact birth time and place. The table then shows the Placidus house used in Western astrology and the whole-sign house from the Vedic lagna.

Does the calculator also give Mars and Mercury signs?

Yes — Mars and Mercury are shown next to Venus, and Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun are in the table.

What does retrograde mean here?

From Earth the planet appeared to move backwards through the zodiac on that date. It is an effect of the viewing angle, not a real change in the planet’s orbit.

Is the calculator accurate?

Positions agree with NASA JPL Horizons to within about 2 arc-minutes for the dates tested, so sign-change times are typically right to a few minutes for Venus, within about half an hour for Mercury and Mars, and within an hour or two for slow-moving Jupiter and Saturn.
