Vastu Checker for Home, Flat and Plot

Check the direction of your entrance, kitchen, bedrooms and more against commonly published Vastu guidelines.

Tradition, not science. This compares your layout with Vastu guidelines as they are commonly published. Schools and texts differ, the rules are not engineering or safety advice, and nothing here needs a paid remedy.

For each room, pick the zone of the home it sits in, as seen from the centre of the home (use a compass — not the top of the floor plan). Leave “Not in my home” for anything you don’t have.

What the common guidelines say

  • Your placements, with what the common guidelines say about each, appear here.

Rules compiled from widely published modern Vastu guidance (checked 19 October 2026). Classical texts such as the Mayamata and Manasara deal mainly with temples and town planning, and later writers interpret them differently.

A vastu calculator online for your home, flat or plot

Vastu shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture that links each direction of a building with an element and a purpose — fire in the south-east, water in the north-east, earth and stability in the south-west, air in the north-west, and open space at the centre. This vastu calculator checks where your entrance, kitchen, bedrooms, toilets, pooja room, stairs and water tanks sit against the guidelines most commonly published today, and shows the result on a compass grid.

It is a cultural guide, offered for tradition and interest. Vastu is not engineering or science, different schools and authors disagree on many placements, and the tool marks those cases as “views differ” instead of picking a winner. It never suggests buying a remedy. Use it as a vastu calculator for a flat or house (room by room) or as a vastu calculator for a plot (shape, corners, slope and open space). Everything runs in your browser.

How to use the Vastu Checker

  1. Stand at the centre of the home and find north with a compass — the online compass works on most phones. Don’t assume the top of a floor plan is north.
  2. Choose Home or flat, then pick the zone for each room you have; leave the rest as “Not in my home”.
  3. Read the alignment percentage, the compass grid and the list, which explains each placement and where views differ.
  4. Switch to Plot to check the shape and proportions, corners, slope, open space and the road.
  5. Use Copy summary to share the result with family or your architect.

How the score is worked out

Each placement scores 2 if it is the most commonly recommended zone, 1 if it is a usual alternative or guides differ, and 0 if it is commonly discouraged. The percentage is the total divided by the maximum. The example home — entrance east, living room north, kitchen south-east, master bedroom south-west, children’s room west, pooja north-east, toilet north-west, stairs south, dining west and an overhead tank in the north-east — scores 18 of 20, or 90%; the only flag is the tank.

A high percentage means the layout matches common guidance, not that it is better built, safer or worth more. Some of the guidelines line up with climate in much of India — morning light from the east, a heavier, shaded south-west — while others are purely traditional.

Using the result sensibly

  • Flats: you control the interiors, not the building’s orientation. Room use and furniture placement are what most people adjust.
  • Disagreements between texts are normal; if a placement matters to your family, talk it through with the architect rather than paying for products.
  • For plot size and permitted construction, see the FSI calculator and the carpet area calculator.

Vastu Checker FAQ

Is there a vastu calculator for a flat?

Yes — choose “Home or flat” and enter the zone of each room inside your flat, measured from the flat’s own centre with a compass.

Which direction is best for the main door?

Most guides prefer north, north-east or east; west and north-west are commonly accepted; south-west is the one most often discouraged. Views on south and south-east entrances differ.

Is Vastu scientific?

No. It is a cultural and architectural tradition. Some guidelines happen to suit local climate, but there is no scientific evidence that room directions affect health, wealth or luck.

How do I use a vastu calculator for a plot?

Choose “Plot”, enter the shape and dimensions, which corners extend or are cut, which way the ground slopes and where the road is. The vastu calculator reports each against common guidance.

Do I need remedies if a room is in the “wrong” place?

No. This tool recommends no remedies or products. Many families simply use rooms differently or leave things as they are.

Why do different vastu calculators give different answers?

Because schools and authors disagree. This one follows the most widely published placements and labels contested ones as “views differ”.
