Tithing on gross rather than net gives $720.00 more a year at 10% (with 20% tax and deductions).

Arithmetic only, not tax, legal or religious advice. The tax and deductions percentage is only used to convert between gross and net pay. Your church or tradition decides what counts as the tithe.

Tithe calculator: 10% of gross or net, by pay cheque, month and year

This free tithe calculator turns a paycheck into a giving figure. Enter what you earn each pay period, say whether that number is before tax (gross) or take-home (net), and choose whether you want to tithe on the gross or the net. You see the tithe for each pay cheque, the average per month and the total for the year, plus an optional offering percentage and any other giving you want to add.

The usual figure is 10%, which is what “tithe” literally means, but the percentage is yours to change. Many people ask about tithing on gross or net, so the calculator always shows both side by side and how much the difference comes to over a year.

How to use the Tithe Calculator

  1. Type your income for one pay period and pick how often you are paid (weekly, every two weeks, twice a month, monthly or yearly).
  2. Say whether the amount is gross or net, and which of the two the tithe should be based on.
  3. Leave the tithe at 10% or change it. Add an offering % or a fixed amount of other giving if you wish.
  4. Set tax and deductions % to roughly what is taken from your gross pay. It is used only to convert between gross and net.
  5. Read the table for each pay period, month and year, and use Copy summary to paste it into a note.

Gross or net: how the numbers differ

Traditions differ on the base. Some teach that the tithe is the first tenth of increase, which they read as gross pay before any deduction; others tithe on take-home pay after tax. Neither is a calculation rule, it is a matter of conscience and teaching, so the calculator does not pick for you. If you are unsure, your minister, priest or elder is the right person to ask.

The gap is simply the tax rate times the tithe rate. With 20% deductions, a 10% tithe on a $3,000 monthly gross is $300, while 10% of the $2,400 take-home is $240, a difference of $60 a month or $720 a year.

Tax notes (United States and United Kingdom)

This is general information, not tax advice. In the United States, gifts to a qualifying church or charity can reduce taxable income only if the organisation is qualified and, for most people, only when you itemize deductions; there are limits based on adjusted gross income and rules for non-cash gifts, and recent law changes affect 2026 returns. IRS Publication 526, Charitable Contributions, and IRS Topic 506 explain the current rules, and your receipts should come from the church or charity.

In the United Kingdom, a charity or registered church can claim Gift Aid on eligible donations, 25p for every £1 given by a UK taxpayer, and higher-rate taxpayers can claim further relief on their own return, as described on GOV.UK. Other countries have their own rules, so check with your tax authority or an adviser. For zakat, which follows different rules, use the zakat calculator.

Tithe Calculator FAQ

Should I tithe on gross or net?

Churches and traditions teach both. The calculator shows each so you can see the amounts; ask your own minister or priest which they teach.

How much is a 10% tithe on a monthly salary?

Move the decimal one place: $3,000 a month gives $300 a month, $3,600 a year. Net pay gives less, depending on your deductions.

Does the calculator work for the UK, India or other countries?

Yes. It is plain percentage arithmetic with a choice of £, €, ₹ or $ formatting. Tax treatment differs by country and is not calculated.

How do I tithe on a fortnightly paycheck?

Choose “Every two weeks”. The tithe per cheque is shown, multiplied by 26 for the year and divided by 12 for the monthly average.

Is my information stored?

No income figures leave the page. Only your currency, percentage and gross/net choice are remembered in this browser.

Is tithing tax deductible?

In some countries gifts to qualifying churches and charities may be deductible or earn tax relief. See IRS Publication 526 in the US or GOV.UK Gift Aid in the UK, and ask a tax adviser about your situation.
