Convert ODS to XLSX and keep what matters

This ODS to XLSX converter turns OpenDocument spreadsheets from LibreOffice Calc, Apache OpenOffice, Collabora or ONLYOFFICE into Excel workbooks. Drop one .ods file or a batch of them — flat .fods and .ots templates work too — and each becomes an .xlsx file that opens cleanly in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers.

The conversion keeps the parts of a spreadsheet that carry meaning: every sheet in order, cell values and types, formulas rewritten from OpenFormula into Excel syntax, number formats (₹ and other currencies, percentages, dates, elapsed times, Indian lakh/crore grouping), column widths, row heights, merged cells, hidden rows, columns and sheets, frozen panes, named ranges, filter buttons, comments and links. After converting, a short report lists exactly what came across and what didn’t.

It runs entirely in your browser. This page reads the ODS XML itself and writes the workbook with the open-source SheetJS library, so the file never leaves your device.

How to convert ODS to Excel

  1. Drop your .ods, .ots or .fods files on the upload area or click it to choose them. Each one is checked and listed with its number of sheets and formulas.
  2. Click a file to preview its sheets with the tabs — numbers and dates already appear the way Excel will show them.
  3. Choose whether to keep Formulas or replace them with values, and whether hidden sheets stay hidden.
  4. Press Convert to XLSX. One file downloads directly; several come as a ZIP. Read the report under the download list to see what was carried over.

ODS to XLSX Converter features

Formulas translated, not just copied

OpenFormula such as of:=SUM([.B2:.B3]);[$Data.A1] becomes SUM(B2:B3) and Data!A1, with ; separators turned into commas outside of quoted text. LibreOffice-only functions are kept as their values instead of breaking.

Number formats read from the styles

Formats are resolved through cell, row and column styles and named styles in styles.xml, so a currency or date format set on a whole column survives — something many converters lose.

Layout preserved

Column widths, custom row heights, merged ranges, hidden rows, columns and sheets, and frozen panes come across, plus bold and wrapped text.

Honest report

Charts, pictures, conditional formatting, validation lists, macros and other styling are detected and listed by name when they can’t be carried, instead of disappearing silently.

Batch conversion

Convert a whole folder of ODS files in one go and download them as a ZIP.

What is carried over — and what is not

The right-hand column reflects what the open-source SheetJS Community Edition can write. If you need charts and full styling, open the .ods in LibreOffice and use File → Save As → Excel 2007–365 (.xlsx); for data, formulas and layout, this tool is faster and private.

Tips for a clean conversion

  • Excel sheet names are limited to 31 characters and can’t contain [ ] : * ? / \. Longer names are shortened and the report says so — update any formulas that refer to those sheets.
  • Formulas are recalculated by Excel when you edit them; the values you see on opening are the ones LibreOffice last saved.
  • Password-protected ODS files must be saved without a password first.
  • Going the other way? Use XLSX to ODS. For a quick CSV of every sheet, try XLSX to CSV; to share a read-only copy, Excel to PDF.

ODS to XLSX Converter FAQ

How do I convert ODS to XLSX for free?

Drop the .ods file above and press Convert to XLSX. The Excel file downloads straight away — no sign-up, no watermark and no upload.

Will my formulas still work in Excel?

Yes for standard functions. They are translated from OpenFormula to Excel syntax and keep their last calculated values. Functions that exist only in LibreOffice, and references to other files, are written as plain values and listed in the report.

Are number formats and dates kept?

Yes. Date, time, percentage, currency and custom number formats are converted to Excel format codes, including formats applied to whole columns and Indian digit grouping such as 1,23,45,678.90.

Why are my charts missing in the Excel file?

Charts, pictures and conditional formatting can’t be written by the open-source SheetJS library this tool uses, so the report lists them. Recreate them in Excel, or convert with LibreOffice’s own Save As when you need them.

Can I convert several ODS files at once?

Yes. Drop them all; each becomes its own .xlsx, and they download together as a ZIP.

Is it safe to convert confidential spreadsheets?

Yes. Everything happens in your browser on your device; the files are never uploaded.
