Lo Shu grid calculator by date of birth
The Lo Shu grid is a three-by-three magic square — 4 9 2 on top, 3 5 7 in the middle, 8 1 6 at the bottom — in which every row, column and diagonal adds to 15. Indian numerology fills it with the digits of a date of birth. This free Lo Shu grid calculator does that for you, adds the mulank and bhagyank (as most Indian charts do), and shows which numbers are present, which are missing, and which rows, columns and diagonals are complete.
You can add a second date to compare two grids side by side, which is how people use it “for marriage”. The grid is an old Chinese diagram, but the personality readings are a modern tradition: this page is for tradition and entertainment, not prediction or advice.
How to use the Lo Shu Grid Calculator
- Enter your Date of birth.
- Choose what else goes into the grid: mulank and bhagyank (the usual), nothing, or also the Chaldean name number, then type the name.
- Read the filled grid, the present and missing numbers and the table of planes.
- Optionally add a Second date to compare two people.
- Use Copy result to keep the summary.
Lo Shu Grid Calculator features
Standard layout
The 4-9-2 / 3-5-7 / 8-1-6 square, with repeated digits shown as 11, 99 and so on.
Mulank and bhagyank
Added to the grid as extra entries, with the working shown.
Planes and lines
The three rows, three columns and two diagonals marked complete, partial or empty.
Two-person comparison
A second grid and a note on the numbers each person lacks that the other has.
Zeros ignored
Zeros are left out, because the square has no 0.
How the grid is filled
Write the date as DD-MM-YYYY and take each digit except zero: 15-08-1995 gives 1, 5, 8, 1, 9, 9, 5. Then add the mulank (the day reduced to one digit, 6 here) and the bhagyank (every digit of the date added and reduced, 38 → 11 → 2 here). Each digit goes into its cell, and a digit that appears twice is written twice. The result has 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9, and lacks 3, 4 and 7.
Some practitioners use only the date digits, others also add the name number or the Kua number. The option above lets you choose; there is no single standard.
Planes and diagonals
A line is “complete” when all three of its numbers are present and “empty” when none are. The names below are those used in popular Indian charts; other authors use different words.
| Line | Numbers | Usually read as |
|---|---|---|
| Mental plane | 4-9-2 | intellect, memory, planning |
| Emotional plane | 3-5-7 | feelings, imagination, intuition |
| Practical plane | 8-1-6 | action, everyday matters |
| Thought plane | 4-3-8 | thinking, analysis |
| Will plane | 9-5-1 | determination |
| Action plane | 2-7-6 | carrying plans out |
| Diagonals | 4-5-6 and 2-5-8 | sometimes called golden and silver |
Missing numbers and compatibility
Books describe a missing number as a quality to develop, and a repeated one as emphasis. This page gives the neutral keyword and nothing more; it does not suggest remedies. For two people, the common idea is that one person’s missing number is supplied by the other. That is a convention, not a measure of compatibility, and a marriage cannot be judged from digits. For the Indian root numbers see the lucky number calculator and the mulank and bhagyank calculator.
Lo Shu Grid Calculator FAQ
How do I make a Lo Shu grid from my date of birth?
Write the date as DD-MM-YYYY, drop the zeros, add your mulank and bhagyank, and place each digit in its cell of the 4-9-2 / 3-5-7 / 8-1-6 square. The calculator does it and explains each step.
Should the mulank and bhagyank go in the grid?
Most Indian charts add them. If your source uses only the date digits, choose “Nothing: date digits only”.
Can I use the Lo Shu grid with a name?
Some practitioners add the Chaldean name number. Choose that option and type the name; the digit is added to the grid.
How is the Lo Shu grid used for marriage?
People compare two grids and look at which numbers one partner lacks and the other has. Use the second-date field. It is a tradition, not a measure of compatibility.
Why is there no zero in the grid?
The Lo Shu square contains only 1 to 9, so zeros in a date are ignored.
Is the Lo Shu grid scientific?
The square is a genuine mathematical object; the personality readings are not scientific.
